I sold my CH AU example in 2014 thinking I'd find a better one pretty rapidly.
Well after 8 years of hunting I finally found a very red & brown UNC.

That's one thing I could never do. I rarely go out of my way to by an upgrade (though I did just last weekend buy an upgrade for my New Brunswick penny token) but when I do, I must wait until I actually have the replacement in hand and can compare them side by side, before I sell the original. Occasionally, I've liked the original better.

I may have noted this in the past, but here we see the thistle, shamrock and rose entwined. No lilies, yet a French legend.

Beautious!
Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.
I normally don't sell prior to upgrading either, but was made an offer I couldn't refuse (insert Don Corleone - The Godfather voice here)
The British were careful not to grant any recognition of "Frenchness" in the official symbolism of Lower Canada, or the subsequent United Province, as such symbolism was being used by democratic reformists and republican agitators. Unlike Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, neither Lower Canada nor Upper Canada were granted their own flag or coat of arms; the British flag and arms serving for all official purposes.
In the same year these tokens are dated, the French colonists of Lower Canada rose in revolt against their British overlords; the general lack of recognition (of which the symbolism used on these coins is a symptom) and the suppression of the mostly French-speaking elected lower house of the colonial parliament by the mostly-English-speaking non-elected oligarchs controlling the upper house, were among the grievances that saw the rebellion receive broad public support in Lower Canada.
This lack of symbolic recognition for the Quebecois continued up until 1867, when the new Dominion of Canada replaced the ineffective United Province of Canada and Lower Canada became the province of Quebec.
