Great Britain 1981 10p Uncirculated, Apparently Very Scarce

I like this coin, and will note that it is apparently quite scarce albeit with not very much demand. It is analogous to some US issues. What are the reasons for this (apologies to CladKing)?

  • original mintage of < 3.5 mill., or about 1-2% of other 10p coins
  • none in specimen or uncirculated sets as those did not begin until 1982
  • large size coin, size of old florin (2 shilling) coin
  • denomination heavily circulated as an "everyday" usage coin
  • could only find one instance of a single small bag held back
  • no collector interest at the time and minimal even now
  • very low catalog value even now (but try to find one on ebay or internet)
  • recalled in 1993 with many, many brought in and melted by Royal Mint

  • Here is one I got recently, luster even better in hand and bagmarks certainly not as obvious in hand:

As a non-Brit who has never been to Britian and therefore has a British decimal collection comprising only whatever my tourist friends and relatives have brought home for me, plus whatever I've happened to find in bulk world coin lots... I can confirm this coin is sufficiently "rare" that I don't have one.

Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD. B)

    Yes,
I think it would be hard to find without bag marks on some of the fields. Haven't found any in better grade to have slabbed. Next is a 2006 Britannia 50p in BUNC.
