Total Population number

Hello, all!

I thought I could try posting here to see about how exactly the Total Population number data works with being aware it's being broken down into certain grades with authentic as well.
That's since I know some cards or items have a high population number while some have a low number and am not too sure of whether its number will impact the price of an item I have in mind that I know had a lower pop number a while back then when I looked at the pop report before posting this, I saw it went up a tad.
Also, I'm sure it'll depend on whether it's either authentic or a number graded item that can attract potential buyers as well.
I'm not too sure if the pop is low, that would mean it's scarce or something depending on what it is as well.
