New Here! What are the preferred auction houses for Sports Cards?

I've come across several 8/9+ cards (50-60) from an estate which look to be premium quality. Most are from 1971 to 1976.

55 Maravich

254 - Malone (R)

250 - Wilt (three of 'em)

P.S. I'm a coin guy.

Premium Quality? Are they graded 8's and 9's or are they raw and you a grader now :)

The only card that I would say is possibly Auction House worthy is the Maravich or Malone and only if a 9 at like $1200+...
Otherwise all the cards you listed are pretty much just eBay sellable (by you or someone else with experience). PWCC (though some don't llke them) might be a good option for you.

Now if these were PSA 10's, then an Auction House would be appropriate.

  • If you are pretty confident you have some graded cards that will total a $500 return and get you at least $50 a card, I think PWCC works as an option for their weekly auctions. You could list them yourself on eBay but for me I have just seen it as they will get a % higher than I would get with my non-name on eBay and its just worth giving up a portion of the sale for me not have to deal with all of the hassles that come with my inferior listing and the sale. Just put it in a box and ship it, let them list it, take their cut and pay me. As mentioned, some have issues with them and their history and reputation on certain issues but its always been a smooth transactional exhange me. I bring up the $50 thing cause at one point they had a rule that if something did not sell for above $25, you get 0. May have changed since. And I mention the $500 total because if you catch a lot of these consigners on the right/wrong day they will tell you they dont want your business if its under a certain threshold. Probstein said he wasn't interested if it was too small and then said, oh just send it anyway which didn't give me much comfort. And may have changed but think its just a throw it in an envelope and trust him that he tracks it well, remembers, gets it right, etc. May have changed since then but heard some unsettling stories.

The minimum selling price for any PWCC item (the starting bid) is $10.... I send all my crap bulk slabs that would only sell for a few bucks on ebay. Plus you get the full selling price. There is no comission/selling fees on PWCC anymore for their weekly auctions since they now have a buyer's premium instead added to the winning bid. And you don't have worry about shipping to the winner or non-paying bidders! Or Returns!!!!
