Michael Irvin criticizes Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams for leaving their quarterbacks
Michael Irvin criticized Tryeek Hill and Davante Adams for leaving Mahomes and Rodgers and said he could have never left Troy Aikman like that.
Michael Irvin Questions Top Wideouts: NFL World Reacts
Two of the NFL’s best wide receivers, Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill, left their star quarterbacks this offseason. Adams and Hill left Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes to get more money from the Raiders and Dolphins, respectively.
Michael Irvin doesn’t think he could have done what Adams and Hill did.
The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver told the New York Post that he could not have left his quarterback, Troy Aikman.
“You left Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes — I don’t know if I could’ve ever left Troy Aikman,” Irvin said. “I don’t think I could’ve done that.”
Irvin suggested that Hill and Adams could still live in Miami and Las Vegas in the offseason.
“You can still go live there in your house in the offseason, but I’m not leaving those quarterbacks,” he said. “Let’s see how this plays out. You’re making $30 million and you can have houses in two places. I think the most important thing is taking care of what’s on the football field.
“They had some great quarterbacks. I’m interested in seeing how it works out with Tua [Tagovailoa] and [Derek] Carr, but it’s surely not Mahomes and Rodgers. If you make that move, do you shorten the time you’re making $30 million a year because all of a sudden, you’re not making the same impact? This is a meritocracy. If you’re not putting up the numbers to support that $30 million, they’ll come for you, just like Dallas did with Amari Cooper and his $20 million. It would’ve been hard for me to make a business decision on leaving those quarterbacks.”
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
“The contracts they just signed have more guaranteed money than Irvin made in his entire playing career, they will be alright,” one fan tweeted.
“$67M guaranteed (Adams) but let’s worry about the long run,” another fan added.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio sees Irvin’s point.
“Amen to that. Will Adams be as good without Rodgers? Will Hill have the same impact without Mahomes? It will be an interesting case study for the 2022 season, and perhaps beyond,” he wrote Wednesday night.
A lot of pressure now rests on the arms of Derek Carr and Tua Tagovailoa, that’s for sure.

Shut the hell up Michael
he is paid to talk.
It was a different time for the league when he played. I've heard numerous statements from Cowboys players that won Super Bowls in the 90s, both the stars and role players, about how important "team" was.
I've mentioned this before, and I think it's relevant here. I've heard many of those players talk about how things were pre-social media. Compared to today. Most of them were cognizant of the fact that there was very little avenue available to build a personal "brand", with the intention to monetizing that brand, without first achieving collective, team success. There was no social media to get yourself out there. The general public might know the stars, but that's it. But if a team was great, and perhaps won Super Bowls, a lot of the roster could turn that into various financial windfalls.
Since we're on the subject of Derek Carr, has anyone ever noticed he looks like the burglar from Home Alone.
He’s 100% spot on. Neither will have the success they had with Super Bowl rosters. Kansas City and Green Bay will not be as dominant and Tua isn’t the answer. Time will tell.
