Has anyone heard of this dealer? Breaking down a collection where the collector kept meticulous records of their purchases and there are several dozen exceptional pieces marked as being purchased from 'Bill Houston' with dates in the late 1970's and early 1980's, have never heard of this dealer before?

No, but I'd love to see these exceptional pieces.

Can't say I have. But you did bring to mind Stephen M Huston, of San Francisco. One of my top dealers back in those days.
DPOTD
"Bill Houston" might have been the name of a fellow-collector they bought off directly, rather than the name of a coin dealer.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD.
What coinage types are we talking? Would assume it's a CT area collection?
Collection came out of NYC, but I'm not sure of the backstory of the collector who owner these originally. Most of the dealer names I recognized, but not this one. My other thought was perhaps it was a dealer/collector named Bill from Houston. All of the ones with this name were German coins, mostly patterns and off metal pieces from states-Weimar, with some really neat off metal Notgeld.

There was a very knowledgeable collector of ancients back then in the Tampa bay area. I know for sure his last name was Houston; not sure if it was Bill, but that seems familiar. He bought and sometimes sold very nice pieces.
