Weight of Full Step Nickels by date?

Can anyone explain why the weight of the Full Step sets all hold the same 1.0 weight? I would think a 53-S would be much tougher than say a 50-D

The weight isn’t what’s relevant. In the registry set composition you will see there is also a full step bonus for each date. The 54-s for example has a FS bonus of 4. That means if you have a ms65 FS coin of that date in your set, that MS65 FS coin is equivalent to a MS69 grade when calculating your overall set value.

So the reason all the Jefferson are a weight of one is that none is considered scare to locate for your set. The FS and higher grades are what make them more collectible.
