Looking to purchase a local guys collection.
Hi all! I am new to this forum and I was joining to seek some guidance on my current collection and future purchases. Some background on my collection is that I had inherited my uncles old sports cards (mostly baseball mixed with other sports) and also purchased several wax packs, rack packs and some other peoples collections. Overall I roughly have about 35,000 cards (ranging from the 60's to present day) and maybe looked through about 20% of that. I am sure I will have more questions down the road once I find out what all I have but for now I am looking to expand my collection again.
So a local guy near me is looking to sell his collection of cards and I am wondering if this is a good deal or just to pass. Here listed below is the items he is selling and the firm prices he has listed. The wax and rack pack boxes are all unopened and only the 1991 box seems to be sealed still from his pictures. Two of the factory sets are in their original box and sealed.
1986 Topps Wax Pack (36 Packs) Box - $80
1986 Topps Rack Pack (24 Packs) Box - $100
1987 Topps Wax Pack (36 Packs) Box - $40
1988 Topps Wax Pack (36 Packs) Box - $30
1988 Donruss Wax Pack (36 Packs) Box - $30
1989 Topps Wax Pack (36 Packs) Box - $30
1990 Topps Wax Pack (36 Packs) Box - $60
1991 Sealed Topps Wax Pack (36 Packs) Box - $40
1975 SSPC Complete Set - $125
1982 Topps Complete Set - $75
1983 Topps Complete Set - $150
1984 Topps Complete Set - $80
1985 Topps Sealed Factory Box Complete Set - $300
1986 Topps Complete Set -$70
1988 Upper Deck Sealed Factory Box Complete Set - $125
Nabisco Autographed Bob Gibson - $20
Nabisco Autographed Don Drysdale - $20
Nabisco Autographed Ernie Banks -$20
Nabisco Autographed Duke Snider - $15
Cincinnati Reds Card Album (10 to 15 9 Card Sleeves 2 Card Per Sleeve) - $10
The total comes out to be $1420 and I estimated around 10,500 cards. Even though I may have a lot of these cards already (haven't been discovered yet) I thought it wouldn't hurt to have duplicates in better condition in my collection. Let me know what you guys think and thank you in advance!

Pass
Too much?
Hard pass. 86 Topps wax, non-BBCE sealed, is less than $80. 86 rack boxes, again non-BBCE sealed, are well below $100. $75 is probably average, $50-60 would be a good deal. The 88 and 89 Topps wax is no more than a $15 box. Shipping is what kills you with those. 88 Donruss boxes are $10 boxes all day long. 90 Topps wax did get up a bit for a while during the pandemic, but is back down to much more reasonable prices. I would suggest that if you are interested in a group of boxes like that, you should join one of the Facebook groups (I'm in Vintage Wax and Packs) as those boxes are sold there all the time for prices less than what you've quoted. Nothing you have listed there is anything special, and you can get it all cheaper somewhere else.
Just my two cents.

I wouldn't buy at that price. Actually don't know what I'd pay, as most of those items don't have much demand.
Gretzky,Ripken, and Sandberg collection. Still trying to complete 1975 Topps baseball set from when I was a kid.
Forgot to add this but there is no shipping cost it is a local pickup only. He lives about 20 mins from my house. I will look into that facebook group too. Maybe I can chew him down to those prices.
Yeah - as a group lot the price should be half or less than what is being asked
I’d offer him 60% of the stated prices if you buy everything at once. Then we will find out how much effort he feels like putting into selling. My guess is he circles back in a few weeks and takes your offer.
HOF SIGNED FOOTBALL RCS
I'll try that and see what he says.
As suggested, much of this would be hard to flip and make any profit even at 60% of asking price: maybe just buy some wax to rip. 1986 Topps Racks are interesting if centered stats are showing.
I’ve been buying those up recently.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.
The seller is in for a wake up call. Nothing special here, but you might get lucky with the raw sets below. RCs of Ripken, Boggs, Gwynn, Sandberg, Mattingly, Clemens, Puckett, and etc. You will need to see it in person. Offer $500 and only if the raw sets are clean and the RCs are gradable. You need to hit some 9s and 10s on the key RCs to make this worth your time, which is not likely.
1975 SSPC Complete Set - $125
1982 Topps Complete Set - $75
1983 Topps Complete Set - $150
1984 Topps Complete Set - $80
1985 Topps Sealed Factory Box Complete Set - $300
1986 Topps Complete Set -$70
1988 Upper Deck Sealed Factory Box Complete Set - $125
Yeah I'm gonna reach out and see when he is available to meet. I will do some research to see what 9 and 10s look like and compare to what he has.
1988 Upper Deck -- assuming that is a typo and is really 1989?
In the years listed 9s and 10s are few and far between.
I love asking dealers at shows, "Will it move ?"
Yeah he has listed as 1988 when it is actually a 1989 sealed set. Sorry I just copied what he had written down.
Yep. I wouldn't want it at half price.
I am not up on current prices, but thought the 1986 Topps complete set for $70 firm was ridiculous. Ebay sold comps are about $16-$20 before shipping. In a bulk buy, you would want to get it for even less.
