1937 1/4 D Great Britain Farthing proof
Hi guys, just picked this beautiful coin up at my LCS.
Love the awesome color. Does anyone have any ballpark value figure? I do know the mintage is approx. 26,000. Also, it being a Top Pop too. It being entombed in the PCGS holder and it's high grade doesn't hurt either. Thanks

Fairly common coin. I would say the value of that specific coin is what you paid for it. Market value? $40 or so?

Most have obviously not been slabbed and there are quite a few out there that if slabbed may measure up. I really love the design with this simple but elegant wren bird. I might give a slightly higher value to it, possibly $50-$60. Surprisingly, a 67 Red might go for 200-300 and have seen even the 1953 go by recall for something like that in 67+UltraCameo Red & saved a picture of that one somewhere which I will post.
BTW, the Norweb collection featured this coin struck in pattern Reverse SILVER & these were struck up for the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.
Well, just Love coins, period.
Here is the reverse of the 1953 farthing:

Thanks guys!

I only paid $23.
I'm blown away about the mintage, 26,000.
Also, the PCGS Top Pop aspect.
1 of 6, in the 66 grade.

Please only remember my opening Sig Line. This exact coin sold in a Heritage auction for $59 less than a year ago, so it is very surprising you paid a dealer only $23 for it. Even if the dealer had won the coin in the auction and had it sitting around for ten-months, it isn't often someone shaves off 60% of the sales price to move the item.
As for the mintage, you have to keep in mind that there were 26,000 proofs issued, but there were also 8,131,000 (8-million plus) business strike examples for the date. So, if someone wants one of these, it need not be a proof. Regardless, I think the coin is terrific.

A PR65 RD sold on eBay a couple of months ago for the opening bid of $19.99.
Very nice coin. great buy for $23.
Sounds like Britain coin is not worth that much.
