Bad purchases

Everyone likes to post their good purchases. I thought I would share a bad.
I purchased 2 medals from a popular medal dealer.
I sent one back immediately because it had been worked on harshly. I should have looked at the second better but I buy a lot of stuff. I am also generally a trusting person.
Fast forward a year or so. I found the second medal and decided to image it and put it away.
It has also been worked on pretty badly.
There are many coins and medals that have been worked on but I feel that you should disclose that information.
I have every reason to believe that he was well aware of the situation.
Caveat Emptor.
Feel free to share your mishaps if you have any.

I appreciate you sharing your story.
Not being a collector of medals myself, when you say "worked on" is that referring to some form of doctoring, much as we see with coins? Or does it mean something else?

It is exactly the same as with coins.
In this case it was spot removal.
I empathize with your position, especially the trusting part. On the one hand, I expect to be disappointed. On the other, my interests focus mainly on exemplars, so a mischaracterization of condition or a failure to note something not otherwise clear, fails to be too traumatizing.

Since it is an art medal the dealer may have thought that conservation was completely acceptable as it is in the art world. Regardless, it should have been disclosed.
