Can someone give me tips on how to pitch like the Big League pitchers?

I went to a batting cage 2 days ago and i used the radar gun and i can only pitch 61 MPH. YES I KNOW THAT SUCKS, but i dont know how to use my bodyweight to my advantage. If i learned how to do that, maybe i could boost that pitch up o like 80 i think. PLEASE GIVE ME TIPS!
Rest in peace Josh, we'll all miss you

  • Helps to get a push off the rubber on the mound, dunno if there was one at the cages.
  • I think thats part of using my body weight to my advantage. Thanks for the tip but its a flat surface where i pitch at my batting cages.

it sounds like you know this already but your LEGS are very important in getting power behind your pitches. nolan ryan and clemens are perfect examples. also throw often. just by throwing alot your arm will get stronger thus higher mph
  • Just use steroids like most of them do!Before you now it you'll be in the big leagues! Then before you know it you'll blow out your arm! Then before you know it,you'll be dead!
But hey,at least you'll have made all those millons of dollars for your family & friends to spend after your gone!

    Ok.....
  • Follow through and bend your back...more for accuracy, but helps with speed too.

  • One more thing, don't throw as hard as you can every time, you'll accomplish nothing that way. And make sure you stretch your arms, shoulders, back, and legs before you do anything. image

  • never push off the rubber, pull off it!

  • Hold are you is one thing to start with?? Also what do you weigh and how tall are you? I'm 6'2'' 190 lbs and I only throw 88-90 right now goin in to my second year of college. Most of how hard you throw is how loose you are and how smooth your motion to the plate is. Take a small step off the back like in your wind up then do everything you normally would until your front foot hits whether your left handed (right foot) or right handed(left foot). Keep your hips closed as long as possible then turn them as fast as you can right before you throw and be sure to get alot of arm speed. Also throw from 3/4 which means not straight over the top or sidearm, just right in the middle. You get more movement on the ball. At the end of your motion bring everything forward and you can either finish square (like maddux and glavine for control) or finish off to the first base orthird base side whichever side you throw from ex. Any pitcher that throws over 90. That's about all I know to tell you that I can't show you. Hope this helps.

  • If none of the above works then learn as many off speed pitches as you can...I never threw over 82 mph but it appeared to be 100 mph after a 40 mph knuckle ball or a 60-70 mph curve...Learn to do what it takes if you enjoy the position and don't focus totally on having to throw like Nolan Ryan.
