The coin was purchased and repaired to make the false dies to strike the counterfeits; repaired coin was certified after the repairs ("repaired genuine source coin"):
Much re-engraving was required in the repairs; struck clones looked identical to this one:

Yes, they were all made aware when found; surprisingly we haven't seen another one since.
with the amount of publicity going on with this line of coins you and others have been working to uncover, i'm sure coins are being pulled from the market. perhaps even certs are being made invalid?
of course this doesn't do much for auction results and there are probably a dozen+ big auction firms archives to scour. not sure if any of you use terapeak or the like to go back in ebay's history which i'm sure is probably one of the richest sources for the past 10 years or so if not longer.
