Question rookie/auto

Hey, everyone when did this happen ex if I wanted Aikman auto on his rookie card it's more money has it always been this way and I never noticed it before. I was looking at Montana and he wanted $1,200 to sign his rookie card does he not like doing this?

I think Hulk Hogan does the same thing to sign his 1985 topps/opc cards. It's no difference than PSA charging more based on the declared value.... Same amount of work, just taking a cut of the increased value.

I suspect it’s that these guys know that an auto on their rookie card is more valuable than an auto on another card or a blank index card.
