I would utilize the monthly coin show also. I do not know if Mel's Coins in Johnson City, TN is still open but I bought quite a bit there in the early to mid 70's. I finished off my first Washington quarter album there with the VF 1932 S and XF 1932 D and sold them 30 or so years later. Bought many silver quarters from him and never had an issue, but that's been a long time ago.

Id have to cast a vote against Mels Coins in Johnson City. Instead, I would send you just a few minutes up the road to Bristol, VA. 10 miles across the state line to Skyland Coins.
If you want to stay closer to Knoxville Hallmark Rare coins is in Kodak, just off the Sevierville exit on I40.
There is a second coin shop a little further down the road toward Sevierville from the Hallmark location and same side of road. Generally more stock in the store than Hallmark but not a lot of variety. Don't remember the name off the top of my head. Hallmark friendly and will work on your want list.
David from Hallmark has a good selection of better stuff. Also, when I traveled several years back, i used to stop at the coin purse in Nashville, and one other nice little shop in knoxville ?cant remember the name
I can highly recommend @Aethelred shop. He is knowledgeable and friendly.

Your best bet is the monthly coin show.

In my experience there are more shops in Western NC than Eastern TN. Short drive over.

NC would be doable. Ashville or further East?
