Maybe the Yankees bought it as a “commodities” hedge. If he does well they can re-sell and pay off some of his arbitration dollars or put towards his extension. They already gambled $5.1MM on him - what is an extra $500K.

I bought his Mojo Refractor bowman last year for $50. I usually don't gamble on these type of players since most of the time they don't pan out. But since I am a yankees fan, I wanted great card of his if he turns out to be great. If not I only wasted $50.
