PSA “Genuine” designation for the half-Wagner that just sold

First time I have seen a PSA grade/designation of “Genuine” (also, note the Cert # of 00000002)

Thoughts?

At least the name Wagner appears in full on the front.

its so old, the second card they graded, that they didn't have the "Authentic" designation yet and went with genuine on a whim. I bet if this was reholdered today, they would relabel it as authentic. When you run the cert on their website, its labeled as N0:Authentic.

Think you could get an authentic if you showed up with the other half?

    More like Authentic Altered!!

  • Why do they send cards back and say miscut, size issues or trimmed? Can't believe they accepted it. The fee must have made it worth it. Wonder what the declared value and insurance was.

I’m sure any company would love to slab these rare Wagner’s regardless of condition. Bragging rights. Plus, if you turn it away, then another company will do the job. Why lose out on publicity as every sale makes headlines - might as we’ll be in your companies slab.

If you look at the cert number, PSA was in its infancy as a grading company. I am sure they accepted anything back then and the prices for grading were probably very reasonable.

Other than this one and the Gretzky Wagner (Cert Numbers 00000002 & 00000001 respectively), has anyone seen any really low Cert Numbers ???
