Total spent on eBay in a year

Hey boys. For tax purposes, is there a way to see how much I spent in total last year on ebay? Under purchase history, there’s just a list and I’m not about to add up like 2500 items. Thanks. Joe

I don’t think there is but it sure would be nice to have. I try to keep a total for each month. Don’t blame you, adding 2500 items up would be a pain.

Kind of a dumb question but why do you need that for tax purposes? Just trying to learn something.

Better yet, is there an exportable list of all purchases with dollar amount? That could be useful for tax purposes going forward to determine cost basis.

If you buy on ebay and resell the items on ebay it shows your cost per item sold.

If everything you sold was bought this year. If you bought it in 2020 or earlier and sold in 2021 not much help. Keeping records might work better.

Just like many, I bought a ton on ebay to grade/flip, so just looking for an easy way to know my net profit. Pretty simple. Crazy that there isn’t a tool that summarizes money spent. Maybe purposefully done so you don’t realize what you spend. Like a casino. Still looking for an answer if someone has one.

eBay spends a lot of time and money making changes to their site. They could spend that time and money making great tools for their users. They don't though. I've been using eBay for 20 years. I still don't know how to find the information I want easily.

If you purchased via PayPal or Credit Card, you should be able to leverage their reporting.

    Thanks,

Open any eBay page. Go to the upper right side and go to the MY EBAY drop down menu. Under that click on PURCHASE HISTORY. On that page you will see SEE ORDERS FROM. From there you can see the last 60 days, all of 2021 or all of 2020. You will have to add up the total you spent but it is all there.

My tax person said she needs what I sold less costs to do so and what I purchased for resell during the calendar year. That would be the amount taxes are due on. Not to over simplify it.

  • Kind of tricky, unless you sold every card you bought over the previous year. You can't count any card that you didn't resell as an expense. That would be a very easy way to cook the books. "Well, I did buy this 1954 Aaron rookie for 25k , but I'm keeping it for my collection!" Just my take on it.

@MisterTim1962 This is why I'm not a tax professional. I would never have come up with this advice.

Has anyone tried the "Request Your Ebay Data" option under personal info in your Account tab? I sent a request on Feb. 3rd, but it's still in processing. Maybe that's an option. Not sure yet.

Yup, I did that at least a week ago. Haven't received anything yet...

I should be able to export all of my transaction data.
