The Stacks description is odd.
“On the eagle side, the area of the second strike appears only as distorted, indicating that no eagle-side die was in place at the time.”
If there was no eagle-side die in place, how did the second strike design show up on the opposite face? More likely, both dies were in place, but there was a blank between this coin and the eagle-side die, causing the distortion seen rather than an impression from the die.
So, not sure about the mechanics of this - was the struck coin stuck to the hammer die while the moneyer placed another blank onto the anvil die and the coin became dislodged before the second strike happened?
Hammered near 8k.
