I'm having a great time hunting for this scarce PCGS slab!

braddickbraddick Posts: 22,499 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've been scouring eBay and other sites for the following insert/slab. Apparently, PCGS only minted these for about six weeks toward the end of 1998 (or 1999, as two sources state it differently). It isn't listed in the PCGS Museum of Slabs. I found an Ike a couple of months ago, and recently this Commemorative turned up. I snagged it right away.

Check your collection! Do you have any of these scarce holders?

Ironically - there was one in one of the Facebook selling groups a few days ago - others crucified the seller claiming it was a fake. Have to go see if I can find it now.

Is it because the barcode is on the back of the slab?

This is what the newer Blue Insert looks like:

    The font is different.
The barcode went from the rear (although it was on the front of the generation before- the green insert) to the front.
The PCGS sticker on the back changed.
On other coins other than modern commemoratives, the coin number and issue number are present, whereas, on this insert, they are not.
Here is my Ike to also show this variety:

    How they appear now:

How they appeared one generation behind mine:

I think they pulled that listing I mentioned.

Isn't yours what PCGS calls their 4.0 in their Museum (First version with the straight sided sticker on the back)

No series or coin number for non-regular US issue coins

    It's called Version 6 in Conder101 (now Lakesammman's post) ?

That Humbert is like your obverse (not being a regular US Issue) but with the earlier straight sided sticker like on the Ike pictured above it?

i can for sure see why some would think that. i don't think it, well, becoz it isn't but for sure the no/reverse bar code pcgs holders being posting for counterfeit discussion has happened at least a few times during my tenure here.
