does nothing to the value of your holdings. Simply brings the per share price down by proportionately increasing the number of shares.

Split is not a reason by itself to buy or sell a stock. It's simply a repricing mechanism that has no affect on the value of the stock or the company that issued it. Many companies choose a split to keep their stock price out of the clouds, Warren Buffet chooses not to.

A stock split typically follows a successful rise in stock price. To many it indicates a good time to sell.

No, I just thought you should be aware, if you were not already, that the split has no affect on the value of your holdings. It's mostly optics. It does mean however that the FED will have to buy 20 times as many shares to keep the jig going. lol

they likely timed the split with the earnings news for an optics double whammy, and it worked!

Mathematically irrelevant, yes, but it usually draws in smaller buyers, who drive the stock even higher. Nice move GOOG.

A 20 for 1 stock split DOES make a BIG difference.
    Just ask option traders.
Option traders are Applauding the 20 for 1 stock split…

The Probability that GOOG would be put in the DJIA just Increased.
It had ZERO chance of being put in the DJIA before the split.
Just like AMZN has ZERO chance of being put in the DJIA without a stock split…

After Apple split a few years ago, there was a minor bump before it pulled back, now its well above its post split price. Psychology of a lower price in play.

Previous transactions: Wondercoin, goldman86, dmarks, Type2

I'm ashamed at myself, I wasn't aware actual 'value' had any relevance to pricing in this market.

    Have a nice day

$3005 a share the day they announced the split. Today $2608, about $400 cheaper to buy. Google went IPO at $97 almost 20 years ago. One oz of gold could have bought 5 shares of Google. Great return on investment.
