Need some advice on my Gretzky Card

Backstory: My Mom collected cards back in the day and collected 3 rookie gretzky o pee chees, I ended up getting one and my two cousins also got one each just after we were born.

I am in a pinch and don't want to risk losing this card over the mail, but I really want to get it graded and sold. Is it worth travelling from Orlando to California to have it graded at the Auction Show? Does anyone know any other ways around having it mailed? Also on my card... that black stain at top, i think it would come out if I tried to treat it, but am afraid to touch the card at all. This was the first time taking it out of the glass to take a picture. Any advice there?

I agree with JoeBanzai. Do not try and alter or fix in any way. A very nicely centered card. The centered tear drop is a bonus as well. Send in the mail. I would send USPS registered mail. It will take a little longer to arrive but it will make it safely.

Yes send it via mail with insurance. Insurance will be much cheaper then a flight. I'd insure it somewhere around 3K USD FWIW, beauty card that probably comes back a 4/5.

If you want to drive it, drive it down to SGC in south florida and have them grade it on a walkthrough service. It will sell for 80-90% of PSA's price...

Do not attempt to improve the card in any way. Put it in a sleeve.

Sometimes PSA sets up at larger card shows... take a look at their schedule and maybe you'll get lucky enough to have one near Orlando.

I tend to agree with everyone else though... just ship it. I'd go USPS Express and Insured.

You've got a really nice Gretzky rookie! The black ink on the front of your card is a common print defect. When it appears, it is always in that place in the Oilers name.

To be clear, that black smudging is not "on" the card. It is a part of the card. It will not come off. I would guess PSA 6-7 based on the scan provided, but it is nicely centered and looks pretty clean.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Auction show?

I would definitely send it USPS Registered Mail and insure it. That is the safest way to send something. While I've never had a card worth what yours is, I have certainly sent boxes back and forth to PSA that were worth thousands of dollars. Many of us on here have done that. I think Registered Mail maxes out at $25K.

    Sorry I meant trade show.

Thank you all for the advice. I think I may wait to see if there will be another show a little closer to Orlando. But I’ll consider shipping it. Just a little sketched out.

Does anyone have an idea of what grade it could be ?

Beauty of a card. 6 or 7 is what my instincts tell me on it.

There really are no on-site psa or sgc grading so it will be in the mail at some point, thats just a fact. Registered mail 100% and insure for a reasonable value, you'll be fine.

Im going to say 6 based on forgiveness given to OPC cards of that era.

IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
