Trump Coins - Marketing Donald Trump numismatic items

An interesting article on the marketing of numismatic items.

How 'Trump coins' became an internet sensation

The "Trump coin," a favorite of right-wing social media and fringe news sites, has become something of an internet mystery.

There's a style for every taste, each featuring a portrait of Trump. Sometimes he's rendered in gold, staring thoughtfully into the distance. In others he's smirking in silver, raising a thumbs-up, or even riding a missile while a bald eagle soars behind him.

New York Times article:

There are several "Trump coins" out there of varying quality, but I think the one produced by Liberty Dollar founder Bernard Von Nothaus was the best. I still have a stack of the First Day of Issue silver dollars put away. They came with certificates signed by Von Nothaus.
I realize they're not for everyone, but interesting pieces of history just the same.

I believe there are a 2017 version (inauguration commemorative) and a 2020 (re election) version of these also.

How stupid is it to put a MSRP $25 on the round thingy. Actually, the whole thing is stupid.

For those having a laugh at the "MSRP"
You have to understand the backstory of what the government did to Von Nothaus and his Liberty dollars, which is something for another time/thread.

I think here, he was simply being overly cautious not to imply that they were legal tender, lest he wind up in prison again.

And yes, there are 2017 and 2020 versions.

And quite possibly one coming for 2024 😲

    Well, I didn't buy it!
My older brother did, I've never bought silver or gold bullion, but he does pretty often (Silver anyway) I'd expect he trusted his source. But there is LOTS of stuff in the line of fake bullion,
    fake back accounts!
One might ask one's self, what's left in this world that's real?
Most of the world around us isn't real at all!
Its more of a Twilight Zone!
    3-D printed fake meat,
    synthetic EVERYTHING!.
If I ever need to cash it in, I guess I'll drill a hole in it, let them test it, and pay me what's it worth, or toss it in the garbage ;)

    Look again!
sometimes we only see what we want to see.
The real political theme here wasn't a post with an image of Trump on a silver slab at all.

    Politics aside. (If possible)
    Just speaking aesthetically.
Some of the representations are much more flattering to the man than others.
The profile on the previously posted coin for instance, is a pretty good likeness and not bad IMO.
The silver bullion piece of his head looks like a death mask. His eyes appear closed. It is just bad and ugly.
I didn’t want to say that in my initial post for fear of rattling someone, but I’ll say it now.
We should be able to critique design and art without making assumptions.

Another clever member who thinks his political comments are so important that the moderators will take one look at it and decide he doesn't need to follow the rules.

Just stop the politics, regardless of your ideology. All you do is aggravate 1/2 the members here. Do you want to be a seen as a contributing member of this group, or some " you-know-what" who wants to agitate people.

IMO, we should call out ALL the political BS. It has no place on this forum. Don't put up with the political scrap and the trolls that post it. There is enough garbage in everyday life. Why bring it here.

Yeah, I was calling it out. It's predominantly one side of the aisle that starts provocative threads like this, and I'm beyond tired of it. If the OP deletes his post, I'll delete mine.

    Really?
There is NEVER any tension when one of these names gets mentioned, NEVER!,
    Jackson,
    Jefferson,
    Washington,
    Roosevelt,
    Lincoln,
    Clinton,
    Carter,
    Regan,
no matter what the coin or token,
Yet the air here got VERY thick with anything 45, any image, any mention of the name, and you could smell it and feel it from the very first comment, all the way down. I could sense the tension.
Oh, its very clear to anyone looking that politics here in any form is Taboo, it would be like an online Charlottesville!
So, like others in this thread, this thread can go on without me!

This is not the place for politics. The point of my post was to let the Trump banshers know that as strongly as they feel about Trump being a bad president there are others that feel equally as strong he was great. If you want to debate it this is not the place. Had the mods seen some of the posts I’m sure they would have closed the thread. I’m stepping back before the ban hammer comes out!
