Bricked Cards- Help!

PNWcollectorPNWcollector Posts: 311 ✭✭✭✭

I bought a couple boxes of 1997 Score Atlanta Braves Regional Team packs to rip for fun. I believe these boxes/packs were distributed locally at the stadiums. The packs in one of the boxes were bricked- sometimes all 5-6 cards stuck together. I pulled a Chipper Jones Premier Club (estimated print run of 137) and luckily it’s just stuck to one other card (Klesko). I’ve done a few test runs on the other bricks, including freezing, blow drying, and slamming but to no avail. Any tips for helping me get this Chipper out unscathed?

    Hi,
I had a similar experience like yours but with 84 -85 - 86 Topps baseball vending boxes several years ago; yep 80% of them stuck together :'(
I closed my eyes and tossed them into the garbage can. :'(

unfortunately there is really no solution to this problem. I have tried all the same things you listed, and none of them worked for me either.

I think you will just need to grit your teeth and slowly peel that klesko off and hope for the best.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Disclaimer think very very very carefully about taking the following advice

The method you have described; freezing, Blow-dryer all eliminate moisture. How about a method that slowly introduce moisture . Likely only worth a shot if you are at the point there is nothing to lose.

Yes I was thinking this too… get a pot of boiling water going and holding the cards with tongs over the pot with the hopes the steam will help.

Pretty sure all the 90’s bricked cards I’ve ever dealt with are fused together. Either you are going to lose part of your card or gain part of the other card in separating them. Best case scenario is that it doesn’t look too bad.

That’s where we ended up. I held the cards over steam, while slowly working to separate. It definitely helped. Did a test run on a couple others and they came out great. The Chipper and Klesko were really stuck together, more so than the others I tried first. Some speckling on the back of the Chipper, in the blue name plate and down by the MLB logo. I think this is the best I could have hoped for.

@PNWcollector Great results after the acetone. Card cleaned up nicely. You may have
a future "side hustle" with this result.

Wow. Looks great. Not sure how acetone will show up under inspection, but good luck.

    Thanks,
