Obligatory weekly post about 1964 giants.

Will this be the first one to break the $2,000.00 mark? That is unless some other 10 has already broken $2000.00, in which case I'd like to know which card and how much it went for.

One of the Psa 10 Bob Gibson's went for $3,000 in a Superior Auction a while back.

  • The Clemente 10 went for far in excess of 2K quite some time ago in a private treaty sale.

Ok cut it out image. No Gibson ever sold for three grand. I would know, trust me on this. And no Clemente ever sold for two grand privately because there is no 10. So just cut it out will ya?

BobS, BTW, the first Mantle PSA 9 sold for $2500 on Ebay. No, I didn't even bid on it.

    Gemmint,

I thought I was certain about the Gibson card. Maybe mikeschmidt can dig up some info?

    ACONTE, YOU DOUBT GEMMINT?

Sorry, I'm feeling lively this morning image. Hey maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't think so.
  • Come to think of it, you are correct. I was thinking of another set, look gemmnit, it's early in the AM, and I have not ingested sufficient quantities of coffee and cigarettes to function even in a semi-normal fashion. So leave me alone! image

But will you bid on this oneimage?

Is it a 1/1? Sorry, everytime I try to sign up for the on-line pop. report the computer stalls out and never registers me. I read in the past someone else had this problem too. I'm still getting my #'s from a pop. report BKAH posted a few months ago (not very accurate anymore).

I was just trying to tell you the first time a PSA graded TG broke $2,000. It was an historical moment image.
  • BobS - This is the only PSA 10 Killebrew.

    Aconte-

I've got no info. I know that it was only a year or a year and a half ago when 1/1 and 1/2 PSA 10's were selling in the $600 range on Ebay. This set is a prime example where expanding populations have been met with increasing prices.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I sold my PSA 9 Mantle for $2999.95 a few months ago (a year ago?)...so a card has broken $2K.
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

Crazy, if you sold a Mantle PSA 9 for $3,000 sometime in the last year I would say that you took extreme advantage of the buyer since Topps Giants Mantle 9's have traded in a $400-900 range during that time.

I know of a dealer that has a Bob Gibson PSA 10 for sale and the price tag is $1250. Is this a good deal?

Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases
  • Mantles were selling for ~$1500 at the time, so maybe it was longer...I don't quite remember. Not that much above market I remember after fees...

Crazy - Mantle 9's haven't sold for $1500 in nearly two years. So what you're now saying is that at that time you charged double the average price, correct?

1954 - are you sure it's a '64 Topps Giants Gibson PSA 10 that you saw for sale? As far as I know all four of the 10's in existence are accounted for and not currently for sale.

Shane -- Earlier on in the history of 1964 Topps Giants cards, there was a Bob Gibson PSA 10 card that did sell in the $1,400 to $1,500 range.

Come on Gemmintman!!!. 10 hours to go and you're going to let a collector of fishing licenses and old scales pick up this 10?

Bob, check back when there are 10 SECONDS TO GO and I bet it will be a different story! image

  • Great prophecy Jeff!!!!! Gemmint comes through. Interesting about the apparent ghost bidding going on before that.
  • thegemmintmanthegemmintman Posts: 3,101 ✭✭
What prophecy? I bid with 4 seconds left, not 10 image. Yes ghosts (Casper and friends) were abound.

$2550.00 and the scariest thing is to think about how much Higher he would have been willing to go!!!!

    Way to go gem!!!!

Why don't you toss us 8-9 GPA guys a bone. How many of the 60 do you NOT have in a 10?

Anyone out there know who couse011 is -- one of the active bidders on the card? PM me if you have any info...

    gemmint,

Congrats! The card is a beauty. You definitely live up to your name!

    mikeschmidt,

I don't divulge information about my customers, but I will say the couse011 is a very legitimate bidder and a highly recommended buyer.
