They assign different point totals to the coins based on several factors; rarity, grade rarity, difficulty in DCAM, etc. If you go here and click one of the preview links, you can get an idea of how it works. Frankly, I'm still a little lost myself.
I originally thought weighted meant that if you have lets say an MS65 with a weight of three.. it would actually improve your overall set grading.. Instead is counts less for having a rarer coin.
For example.. if I am trying to put together an 66.00 graded set and if I get a really tough weighted coin in MS65.. im screwed. Just like the 32d or 32s washington.. on 3 are graded in 66 (between both coins).
Weighting a coin will really screw you, unless you have the highest grade known. Pray for bonus points , they seem to work out better for us little schnooks. Weighting can pull you down while bonus points can only raise you up. Bear
Whitewash - I forget ,not everyone collects proof coins. Bonus points are for Cameo and Deep cameo for certain early years with extra points on top of that for rare coins in cam & DC. You dont usually see those extra bonus points thats why I said pray. Bear
Here is my SET I just bought the 95 in ms-69. Waiting to get it to upgrade. Now all I need to get is the 94 in ms69.The 94 is weighted 3 so how does this affect me. Right now it looks like my set is graded by the grades I have and I don't see how this weighting system works.
