Need Help with 1828 Bust Quarter Variety?

Need help with an 1828 Bust Quarter Variety. It looks to be the B-1 best I can tell, but I cant find any reference to the broken 8 in the date, not sure if it is a latter die state or a re-used # 1 or ?? Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

You are correct about it being B-1. The reverse doesn’t have the square base 2 in “25 C.” (therefore not B-2), and doesn’t have the 25/50 denomination (therefore not B-3). The position of the D in UNITED (low relative to the end of the scroll) clinches it as 1828 B-1.

I’m not sure what to make of the broken 8. Could be PMD, or maybe a grease filled die? I don’t see evidence of the retained cud going through the leaves on the reverse, so the broken 8 wouldn’t be the result of a late die state.
