JFK SENATORIAL AUTOGRAPH 1957

I could use some opinions and some advice.
A little background about this letter. My father was seeking an appt. to the USMA at West Point in the mid 50's. He sent letters to his Senator and Congressman. JFK was notorious for using his picks for the academies and giving them to his biggest campaign donors for their kids Even though my father got in via his Congressman Sen. JFK continued to send my dad letters encouraging him to reapply next year and what openings he would have available. It's 2 pages and has historical significance as it discusses the opening of the Air Force Academy the coming year in 58. Dad had already been accepted and was graduating in 58. So he just ignored it.
Anyway I've had this for a long time, I've heard every possible thing to look for, and did my own forensic examination since PSA want $150.00 smackers because its JFK.. i suppose Im going to have to give in, if I want to sell it.But let me show it and tell you what I did to come to my conclusion.
First I just slid my pinky over it to feel if the ink was raised, and looked at the back to see if there was uneven pressure indentations, then used a 32x loupe and looked for swish marks and signs of ink bleeding. Which it had all of. Then I got examples of all the Secretaries forgeries, and got as many authentic example of JFK signatures as I could find. I would open a known authentic signiture in PS CC then embed a cropped copy of mine on top and lower transparency putting the signatures side by side. I even got one authenticated by PSA and it looks to be authentic to me.

First, this is the coin forum - you should post this in the autographs forum.

Second, you would need to post pictures.

Now, your user role still shows as "applicant" so you can't do the above two things until you are a full member in a couple days.

Third, you should not run your finger over the signature - that will not prove anything and can only damage it.

Fourth, I am 98% certain that your letter is signed by either a secretary or autopen, as that is how JFK did things back then. I gave you a 2% chance of authenticity but that is probably overly generous, given that this was a routine matter that probably never got to JFK himself. But, you never know.

Once you post pictures (best to do it in the autographs forum) a few people can weigh in, especially @JMS1223 since they have studied JFK quite a bit.

When you can post pictures of it I can definitely help you out. I have studied JFK’s signature quite extensively.

Before I throughly studied JFK’s autograph I myself made the mistake of purchasing what turned out to be a secretarial signed Senate letter from 1955. Luckily my mistake only cost me $200 instead of the $1500 or more authentic JFK letters cost. I had learned a lot since my mistake and found that JFK is very rarely authentic on letters, especially the more recent they are.

Look forward to seeing a picture of your JFK letter.

  • Hi guys,
My apologies for listing this under coins, I actually started in autographs, and I'll be dog gone if I know how it ended up here. I actually noticed right away after it posted, and I spent 30 minutes looking for a way to delete it to no avail.
    I have two quick questions,
    1. How do I delete this, so I can repost under Autographs
    2. I noticed when attempting to upload pictures it asks for a URL. I dont have them uploaded anywhere. Is there a setting I can change on here that allows for uploading photos from my computer?

You are a full member now so you can post photos the easy way. Click on the icon on the far right above the text box and it will let you pick a file/image from your phone or pc.

No way to delete a thread, so just post a new thread.

Here is a visual. Once you click on the mountain icon above the reply/text field it will look like this:

You can see above the URL text box a gray round button that says “Choose Files” and from there it allows you to browse what is on your PC to pick the image file. It will then automatically load your file and automatically create a URL in your reply once you select an image file. You can repeat if you have more images to post.

Given the subject matter I think the chance that it is his actual signature is very low even without seeing it.

    All glory is fleeting.

The whole family was corrupt; from his bootlegger daddy to the newest Kennedy arriving on the scene today.
Actually, not much different from the majority of the politicians today.

I'm just gonna say that you are way off target on both of those statements.

And, to stay on track with the OP, here is a Kennedy signature from 1958.
