Any info on this older ACCUGRADE slab?

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,222 ✭✭✭✭✭

I tried "researching" this slab yet no one on Facebook had an answer, so I turned to my second favorite source for current and accurate information, you guys here at PCGS.

Seriously though, is this one collectible? Scarce? (Rare?!)

Thanks!

Based on the Ikes I’ve seen, hard to imagine that grade is high. Don’t know anything about the slab, though.

I would suggest that you post it on the NGC forum and tag Conder101, he still posts there and can likely tell you more. I know its an early version but not how early.

    Via Conder101

"Des Moines was a "branch office" that opened in 1986. It did not operate long and produced two varieties of holder, this one and an earlier variety (ACG 7) that used a dot matrix printer and did not have the registered symbol on the back label. ACG did have either one or two branch offices in California, one in San Francisco and one in Long Beach. i don't know if these were two different offices or if it was the same office and it changed locations. There is also a variety of AGC Slab that just says Accugrade WEST and one that says Accugrade CALIFORNIA. I don't know which office produced those or if it was a completely different office. None of the branch offices remained in business for long, probably no later than 1988."

Also, I would say the slab you showed @braddick is fairly scarce. It should have a decent premium if you find the right slab collector.

    Lots of reading to do.
    You guys are the best!
When I saw this one pop up on eBay yesterday (from an antique seller- not a coin dealer), I bought it on impulse.

Nice pickup. I definitely would have snagged it, especially at that price.

    Congrats.

Hard to tell by the OP images, but I don't think that PR63CAM is justified...not high enough that is. But I would file this one under; buy the holder, not the coin.

Nice, when you get it tell us if the reverse is an unrecognized doubled die or shaky camera syndrome,
