Antique find: The Sporting News Newspaper January 6th, 1954. A walkthrough!
So I picked up this Sporting News newspaper dated January 6th, 1954 in an antique store for $10! Thought I’d share a few pages with y’all!
The cover page:
I can only imagine what the players must’ve thought of this 😬
The No-hitter lost in the 10th:
These next two are interesting and quite the fun read! Need no explanations
Here are the top 10 biggest events from 1953:
This is kind of neat; Ty Cobb reminiscing of past ball players from the dead-ball era and how they would fair amongst current players and teams of the day. Also, some in-game antics!
Cobb pictured with a family who’s land he’d hunt on in the off-season to keep his legs in shape. I forgot to snap a photo of the rest of the article; I’ll post it when I get off work tonight
Stan Musial’s journey to batting .337 on the year!
So this puzzled me: This article is all about football. No clue why they put a pic of Mantle in here.
I thought this was an interesting article; among it it discusses how Nap LaJoie LOST the batting title to Cobb in the LAST game of the year, 1910, .385 to .384! Boy that must’ve hurt!
Can anybody help Ol’ Wirt here complete his 1915 baseball set?? 😂
Think anyone ever got a copy of this? Man that’s be so cool!
League leaders from the Puerto Rico season. Recognize any names? 😎
That’s about all there was; there were also some articles on Erskine if anybody is interested; I’ll post em in the comments after I get home from work.
Thanks for following along! 😁
