What do you think about the hit that injured Chris Godwin, I know it's a legal hit. I remember watching it when it happened and Chris Collinsworth got a bit upset about it, saying that when a reciever is hit like that, he is defenseless and Collinsworth also said that he talked to a lot of receivers and most said they would rather be hit high than low, because when you get hit low, it can end your career with knee injuries. Here is the hit.

i saw the hit multiple times. It was a legal hit. I would disagree with Collinsworth in this instance. if you take away high hits, they have to be able to hit somewhere, so they hit low. When a receiver goes across the middle, they should be bracing for impact anyways. they should be expecting to get blown up.
I think everyone needs to remember, this is still tackle football and sometimes, people will get hurt.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
The bottom line is the defender put himself in a position to not get hurt himself. He didn’t care about potentially hurting Godwin and the reality of it is that he took the easy way out rather than wrapping him up around the waist and tackling him. Scumbag move but NFL legal
999 out of 1,000 times, maybe more, that hit is nothing, the receiver gets up and walks back to the huddle. like craig said, it's football and players have always gotten hurt. maybe we should turn things on Collinsworth and put the blame on Godwin for being so hard to tackle. if a tackler can't hit above the shoulders, can't grab the back of the jersey above the numbers and in "the Collinsworth world" can't hit below the knee then I suppose we should just have Flag Football and forget about tackling.
I doubt anyone was happy to see the hit on Godwin or smiled when he left the game, but it happens.
I remember several years ago in a Cleveland vs. New England game when Gronkowski had his knee blown out on a similar play. he caught a pass and was moving downfield with one player trying to bring him down from behind when another rolled into his legs. a split second earlier and Gronk's foot hasn't hit the ground yet, a split second later and it's left the ground and is back in the air. as it was, the tackler hit his foot just as Gronk planted it and the injury happened.
that's football.
I’m still saying these guys would rather get an ESPN highlight hit rather than tackle, legal or not wrapping the guy up around the waste is more effective than driving blind into a guys knees. It is “Football” for sure but so many times guys try for the big hit and either hurt themselves or the runner or miss and the guy gets extra yards. I want the NFL to promote better tackling than a fine line between legal and illegal hits on opponents.
Players would rather be hit up high than low. But up high is being phased out (CTE) so low is the way. And low is how injuries occur.
And Tampa Bay is lined up for the opening kickoff................
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Now MRI confirms torn ACL - done for the season......
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
just saw that. a shame. dynamic player. honestly though, for his long term health, much better to have a severe knee injury than have players tackle up high and end up with CTE
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
The fact players would rather get hit high is exactly why they don't get to make decisions on player safety. The hit that injured Godwin is far safer than the high hits we used to see.
so let me get this straight. before the ball is ever kicked off the offense is the casino and the defense is your average gambler. then, up high is no good. next, down low is no good. what exactly on God's green earth is a defender who is moving at warp speed supposed to do -- and allowed to do -- in this sport?
i hate what happened to Godwin just as much as the next guy, but the NFL is trending toward becoming completely unwatchable
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
