Why only "PSA Authentic?"

Those on here with more grading experience than me.... Why do you think this card is only PSA Authentic? I assume if it was PSA 8+ quality it would be graded as such.
The seller states it didn't meet minimize size requirement.
What's the consensus? I am curious if it wasn't bought way back when as a BGS card and it came back trimmed.
Any thoughts?

It’s probably a grade 5 if it was assigned a number. They are really hard on foil cards since It shows every scratch.

I would assume it's been trimmed. Like you said:
"The seller states it didn't meet minimize size requirement."
That would imply it was short out of the box (unlikely) or short after being trimmed (most likely).
The top looks suspect...

Based on your raw-card screenshot and the PSA slabbed card, I'd say the right edge has been heartily trimmed.
Who knows.
The card @ PSAAUTH @ auction sold for $7k, which to me is shocking.
I smell refund if it don't grade...

If the card were trimmed, shouldn't PSA be returning an AA (Authentic Altered) designation? One reason Authentic might be issued is if it is by request of the submitter. PSA descriptions of Authentic vs. AA is somewhat overlapping and ambigious, too.
Looking at other graded chrome examples from that year, they look to be the same size in the holder. What is the precision of this size determination?
Yeah, raw looks to have uneven L/R borders, the slabbed version not so much.
I'd think it was sent it after some prior mishap (whether it be BGS crack and resub, request w/ minimum grade, etc.) with the request of "grade as Authentic." I was not sure if PSA allowed that but it seems as if they do now?
After comparing this one to mine, this one definitely has too much room the case L-R. I think it was definitely trimmed and PSA did a good job catching it. Anytime I see a card slabbed as "authentic," I just assume it's been altered and is ungrade-able @ PSA.
I had a few minsize kickbacks recently, actually many more now that all of the hundreds of cards ive subbed over the years. PSA told me upon measuring a second time only option was for an Authentic holder if I wanted it slabbed so I said sure.
PSA has definitely minsized alot more cards recently that they ever have. Oh and the last time I had them slab authentic, I measured with a digital caliper and saw nothing wrong with it. Other minsize cards ive sent back and eventually had slabbed, as PSA 10's nonetheless.
seeing an Authentic on a Topps Chrome basketball card of that era doesnt bother me. I know how PSA has been treating potentially N6 stuff lately so I just shrug it off. if the seller said its because of a minsize issue, id definitely believe him.
