Biggest shocking development of the NFL season thus far?

What are your nominations?

Mine is the lowly Washington Football Team winning 4 in a row to go from a season killing 2-6 start to 6-6 now and are in the thick of the playoff hunt. They've been killed with injuries too. Their starting QB Fitzpatrick went out with a season ending injury during game 1. And their starting QB now Heinike is a guy that was laying on his couch and out of football a year ago. They are on their 4th string Center. And on their 4th place kicker this season! They have the most injured offensive line in the NFL this year. Both star DE's have been injured: Chase Young is out for the season and Montez Sweat has been on IR since late October. Their #2 WR (Curtis Samuel) has been out all year with a groin injury. And their star TE Logan Thomas has missed over half the season and is probably out for the year now. In terms of roster talent they might be one of the worst in the NFC, yet they are in the thick of the playoff hunt.

The Rams, I expected more from them.

Belichick having the Patriots sitting atop the AFC with a rookie starting QB has to be first on this season's most shocking list. Any other season I'd say he'd already have the C.O.Y. award locked up but Kliff Kingsbury has earned a ton of votes too.

Speaking of the Rams....Cooper Kupp is having a phenomenal season. He is the home town fans favorite at this point. But......if he goes down.....It's over for the Rams.

I think the shock with the Rams is how they mortgaged their future to pick up so-so Stafford. They gave up way too much for someone not that much better than Goff.

    I could not agree more.

I am shocked by how far back to the pack Patrick Mahomes has fallen.

statistically he is a league average QB. 4 good games, 8 bad games. I wonder if the league has "figured him out" or if he will make a comeback next season?

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I think that Mahomes has established himself, in terms of capability and performance, as elite and generational. If the Chiefs go more the Packers path than the Patriots, I won't be looking at him differently.

I’m saying the Redskins will win the division, Dallas is just not capable of consistent good play.

I never was a believer in Stafford so not entirely surprised about the Rams.

I thought Buffalo would build off of last year but they have been exposed as having too many holes.

I’m pleasantly shocked at how well the Patriots are doing 100%

it is possible he is just having a down year. but as for this year, he has been neither elite or generational.

he may bounce right back next season. time will tell

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Rivera has been building something there. So I expected the Redskins to rise up. But to do it so quickly with so many obstacles is impressive. But the Cowboys win the division regardless in my opinion.

    ........
Anyone can check my post history, I always hammered home one important fact. Belichick's most pressing goal before retirement is the Head Coach wins record. And subsequently I always stated that he would put together a team that wins double digit games sooner rather than later. But I have to admit that this has certainly exceeded my expectations.

You are right about the numbers. I think that I am right about the other stuff. So much depends on the team, the coach, attitude, work ethic, etc, etc.

So-so? He's got 30 touchdowns through 12 games and a rating of 106 and has had a rating of 97 or higher in 9 of their 12 games. Yes, he threw a bunch of pick-6s (the last of which, at least, wasn't his fault). But they're still 8-4. He's got more touchdowns, fewer picks, more yards, and a better record than Tom Brady had at this point last year.

Anybody who thinks he's "not that much better than Goff" hasn't watched either of them play.

I'm on the record as saying that I thought Stafford was a very high level QB who got taken down by the Lions. I'll stand by that and say that these less than stellar games are aberrations. I do think that McVay has struggled to keep his team succeeding. Maybe play calling and scheme? Adjustments?

I agree with what you say about the Cowboys. They run hot and cold. Inconsistant. Red skins winning the division?..... I like it! But Perky......they are not the Redskins anymore. Where have you been?

Biggest shocking development of the NFL season thus far.

over and above the performance of any player, Team or Head Coach I think what has surprised me more than anything is the erratic play of pretty much every Team.
