Happy to see that Gil has finally been given the honor of being a member of the HOF.
Not only did he play the game at a superior level, but he was also one of the kindest and classiest men to ever put on a MLB uniform.

Gee, what took him so long? Come to think of it Duke Snider didn't get into the HOF until the eleventh ballot!
And don't forget Buck O'Neil (that was a travesty he didn't get in before he died) and Jim Kaat (I made a case for him a few years back; he's the pitcher with the second most Gold Gloves) and Minnie Minoso (don't know if I ever thought of him as HOF material exactly but isn't he the only guy who played in MLB in five different decades?)

I've been honoring him for thirty years by naming my rotisserie team "The Gil Hodgepodges." Glad that the Hall of Fame voters caught up.
Next we gotta get Roger Maris in!
Buck O’Neill was the real travesty that was rectified.
That would be a stretch. Had 2 great years.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!

Crazy, he should've been 1st ballot.

I guess they thought the song went:

It took Joe Dimaggio THREE tries. There are more than a few guys that didn't get in on their first try that make no sense - like Joe D and the Duke.
Roger was a great player and good enough to be in the Hall - if he could have stayed healthy. He missed 449 games during his career and retired (in large part because of injuries) at the age of 33. But, yeah, 2 great years plus one very good year does not a HOFer make.
Took Killebrew until 1984 to get in. Retired after the 1975 season.
Was #5 in HRs at the time and 2nd to Ruth in HR frequency of players with over 369 HRs.
Things were a little different in those days. It is for that reason that it was not until 1962 when we had the first "elected on the first ballot" (besides the 1936 Original Five) guys...Bob Feller and Jackie Robinson.

As Cody Lambert would say, that is totally bogus! I mean he hit more home runs than Mickey Mantle AND Reggie Jackson...and they gave that dude a candy bar!
He's still eighth on the list (not counting 'roid guys) so that's not bad!

Not going to happen..
Also in this vote last wk. He did not get a single vote .. That should tell you.
He was also a very well liked guy. DiMaggio could be quite the jerk when it came to the guys who would eventually vote for him.
As a big Killebrew fan, along with many others here in Minnesota, it was very aggravating to see Killebrew passed over 3 times!
Not to derail the original thread or start an argument but I will take those two great years (Including the true all-time single season homerun leader), M.V.P. titles, and several times world champion over anything Ted Simmons, Harold Baines or any of the recent hall of good players ever accomplished combined. Of course, this is just my opinion and for the record I am a little biased being a Yankees fan.
Well...
Better 40 some years late than not at all
Congrats to his family and those who knew him well... this is well deserved and long overdue
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
is he your favorite player?
