The full counterstamp reads: "Dr. G. G. Wilkins".

I have several of these, on IHCs, FEs, and one large cent. They're great. Two different font styles exist.

Do you know who was this guy, and why he stamped them? Advertisement, presumably...?

Yes. Q. David Bowers wrote a book (booklet) about him and his counterstamps.

He was into all sorts of things in New Hampshire. He also had a "Pittsfield, N.H." counterstamp that he used in conjunction with his name, but those are far less common.

Most of his counterstamps were on cents.

I am almost positive I once had a G. G. Wilkins counterstamped Shield nickel, I will have to look on some old back-up drives for a photo.
