Bridgetown, Barbados
Fireworks filled the sky over Barbados on Tuesday as the Caribbean island nation declared itself the world's newest republic, lowering Queen Elizabeth's flag as it severed colonial-era ties to the British throne to the sound of jubilant gun salutes.
However Queen Elizabeth II has never appeared on regular circulating coins of Barbados.
These coins have come from supermarket change or coin-redemption machines:
Barbados 1 Cent 1992 (Copper, 19.0 mm, 2.50 gm)
Barbados 5 Cents 1988 (Brass, 21.0 mm, 3.75 gm)
Barbados 10 Cents 1992 (Copper-nickel, 17.8 mm, 2.5 gm)
Barbados 1 Dollar 1989 (Copper-nickel, 25.8 mm, 6.32 gm)

I saw that on the news today. I want to go there one day...
Very scarce Specimen mint set in matte, 1975
Well, just Love coins, period.
Barbados was a Franklin Mint flag back in their heyday, though actual circulation coins were struck in London and/or Canada.
I doubt we will see any change to the coinage as a result of the government change, unless they decide to redesign their coat of arms. As there's nothing particularly offensive or colonial about the arms (which were designed in 1966) I suspect it will remain unchanged.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD.
Although the above put together matte set are coins struck for circulation and extremely rare in that they were NOT part of any FM set for collectors. This was put together by somebody at the Central Bank and put in a Capitol holder. I have never seen another.

A considerable amount of Barbados decimal coinage was produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. So now and again, you find Canadian coins struck on Barbados planchets.
Here is a Canadian dollar struck on a Barbados 25c Cu-Ni planchet, 5.7 g

LOL, bit of a stretch calling it Barbadian as none of it came from Barbados - not the metal, not the design, not the striking of it, nada....
Still, thanks for sharing!
