The Good Ole' Days of Lightening Fast Turnaround Times

I was going through my old submissions for tax purposes. I came across a bulk order from 2012 for 538 cards that was received on 5/3 and shipped back on 5/11. I had another bulk order for 500 cards received on the same day and shipped back to me a week after the one above. Do you think we'll ever see those turnaround times again? Or $5 grading fees? Probably not!

You can duplicate that good ol 10 day turnaround time that you had with 500 cards by sending just 17 cards Express, both cost $2500

Hahahaha. Those were the days alright. How about 48 hour turnaround for a $6 monthly special AND good grades? Somebody get the time machine ready...

At some point in 2022 or 2023, PSA's backlog will be processed and shipped out the door. What is a realistic return time for bulk submissions at that point? Who knows, but we will never see the gold old days of days or weeks for a bulk return. COVID was a game changer for sure.

When the flipperbois head into another asset class then it will be close to that again. Nothing lasts forever

I still see people out there saying this whole backlog wasn’t caused by the flippers. They screwed up our hobby.

So what you're saying is that it slips away and all your money wont another minute buy.

I do think we'll get to a point where PSA is starved for submissions again. There was a lot of dumb money that entered the hobby last year. Some of that will disappear as we're seeing on the drops in prices of high population modern cards. With PSA's expanded capacity to grade cards, they need a hungry collector base submitting lots of cards to keep it filled. It will certainly take time to work through pent up demand of what they still have on backlog plus what collectors and dealers have been hoarding since the shut down. But I think it will eventually arrive at that day where they need more submissions. Now, whether the grading standards will return to normalcy is another question and I don't have a guess on that.

I wouldn't expect it for quite awhile. Nat Turner says they can process 40,000 cards a day. When they shut down, they were getting 100,000 per day and had one day where they got 660,000 cards for grading.
