Are you just realizing this? ;)

Actually, it seems to be plateauing now. Anecdotal evidence shows some of the big buyers within Mexico are tapped out for at least the rest of the year. And the Aureo sale today (Prieto Sale #4) showed a bit of weakness in Mexican Republic medals.

Let's see how my patterns do in January....

Not talking about buyers in Mexico.

Coins of Mexico second republic bringing huge demand / strong prices especially if slabbed. They are absurdly cheap vs US.

USA buyers realize this and chasing this material.

Who do you think are bidding up the prices of all the good Mexican coins/medals at auction? Hint, it's not only rich Americans.

If one group stops buying, who is left to be the underbidders?

I think it will cool off like many areas of collectibles will as well. Not all but some areas. Thing is you may have 5-10 new strong bidders once they get the coin it will be next in line and so on lower and lower results. I could be wrong just a felling.

A few my guess not many. This area will never be like the USA or China not in our life times. A lot of these people at the prices they are paying will tap out and you will see less aggressive bidding at every single large auction. It may come back but the stars mys align themselves.

I think this may change in a decade or 2 with more and more Latinos living in the USA with better paying jobs/careers but we are not there yet in my opinion. My guess like a lot of people they will want to collect their own heritage coins not all but some for sure.

There is a lot of panic buying thinking they will never get another chance so they are buying as much as possible but unless they are super rich they will end up sooner rather than later with empty wallets.

Ha! Dealers in Mexican coins have been saying this to sell coins since the 70s and probably before!

I've got news for you. The demand is coming from the mother country as THEY get wealthy. Oh, and from China as THEY get wealthy.

I don't mind the series I collect are not rare so no biggy for me. I don't need to own high graded coins just happy to be collecting. Let them spend 60k on a single coin I am happy with my 600$ version.

For a while some where paying just about anything to get a coin on ebay sales after sales now not so much they have learned for the most part coins come up for sale again and most are not rare or rarer that they just can't and will not let pass by.

Those chasing top grades let them slug it out they get what they deserve. Those that got them years ago congrats but now seems like not many will be building collections of more than 20 coins in a life time unless they are millionaires.

You guys truly believe that all these new buyers have never ending funds once that slows down all will slow down not enough people in line on a constant basis.

Some said here years ago Chinese were big buyers then they left now some are back they will leave again is my guess.

Do you include yourself as a panic buyer ?

I simply think the market is hot at the moment those factors can change and see a cool off then at some point get hot again and so on and so on until you have enough collectors in place that are buying on a constant basis. The US and China have that some countries go threw cycles of up and down like say Canada.

Sure there are exceptions some coins will not cool off at find a new higher price point and remain there till it again rises over time. But not all coins that is for certain. Just common sens.

I think many US players (dealers and collectors) been there done that (US Coins). They are looking for a new arena which offers thrill of chase (low pop affordable material). I have found this in world coins and for me concentrating on primarily Mexico material. One guy I know deals in Irish Coins another does Vatican. It’s simply where one wants to go or just be a generalist.

I'm from South East Asia here and in recent years the Libertads has gained much ardent followers among the communities

Not to mention the portrait and cap and rays 8 reales which have been favorites since colonial times and widely used in trades

Edit: talking about cap and rays, anyone could point me to the direction where I can participate in active discussions among the followers here dedicated to this specific coin. I have a few in my collection and would love to hear opinions especially how to identify fakes

Scroll to the top right and tap the bar then under discussions enter “cap and rays “ you should find plenty of discussions.
