Where to get Halogen Bulbs in CA

I need a few halogen bulbs for coin photos. Standard lamp insert (not the pronged kind) for a copy stand set up. Preferably ones that don’t get too hot, if that’s possible. I recently learned that halogen bulbs are no longer being sold to CA residents. Photos with my current bulbs (LED and CFL) aren’t yielding the results I want. Any advice?

Thanks

Try Ebay out of state sellers.

  • Maybe more effort than it is worth but thrift stores would be a viable option.

Why is that? Doesn't grow weed fast enough??

It’s California. They micromanage everything. Halogen bulbs probably may cause cancer in CA.

You can set your white balance with any light source. What you should be most concerned with is coverage.

Lustrous coins aren't showing well. No problems with the circulated stuff, though.

Amazon will not ship halogen bulbs to CA residents, regardless of where the seller is located.

This was actually the first thought to cross my mind since I'm only 4 hours away and visit yearly, but after all the games and drinks I couldn't say no to, those would end up being some very expensive light bulbs!

Crossing state lines with halogen light bulbs is probably now a felony. :o

Halogen lights are not very efficient. They use lots of juice 😉.

I haven't found anything I can't accomplish with LED bulbs. Luster in the picture is a function of the size and spread of the light source. This can be managed with an LED source by adjusting the distance between bulb and subject and adding or removing diffusion.

Nevertheless, if you want some halogen bulbs, I'd recommend posting a WTB thread on the BST, and someone in a free state will gladly ship you some.

That's true. My buddy just asked to ship him some a week ago. Lol
