Albert Collis made some nice restrikes of the Washington Born Virginia medal way back in 1959.

Do we know who made the transfer die or struck his pieces for him? Do we know how he distributed these?

The following is from Ron Guth's old CoinFacts.com:

CoinFacts wrote:
In 1959, Albert Collis created a transfer die of the original die (by Jacob Perkins, c. 1792) used to strike the undated "Washington Born Virginia" Medals. Using the copy die, Collis struck the following examples, all uniface (mintages in parentheses): Platinum (1); Lead (1); Gold (7); Silver (22); Copper (5,019). Once the restriking was completed, Collis donated the die to the American Numismatic Association, where it resides today.

Here are a few of mine. I'm always looking for other old holders and compositions so let me know if you have any!

There are two Collis restrikes in the Stacks Bowers auction December 1:

Lot 8034 is a copper restrike NGC MS63
Lot 8035 is a silver restrike NGC MS63 (only 22 struck in silver)

I've got 2 of the coppers. I like the mature George head and uniform. Peace Roy

I don't think this has the info you're looking for, but here's a contemporary article on the restrikes.

    Yes it is!

I wonder if there are any photos of Albert Collis available? It would be great to see photo of the man behind these!
