This is just sold for $55,200 at HA. It sounds like a pretty good buy since according to PCGS the mintage of those is only six.
I don’t think I can agree that it’s a “good buy” because the mintage is only 6. I have no idea why there would be any demand or collectibility or demand for a redeemed Casascius coin.
It’s actually unfathomable to me, I’m just not getting it. You have 55k to spend on a coin. You could buy a 1795 flowing hair dollar in AU, a 1799 eagle in low Unc, or 20 common Double Eagles. Instead, you spend it all on a 1 ounce gold novelty where the bitcoin has already been redeemed.

I guess that's different taste on different coins, also it might be vision too. It is very easy to see 1852 Assay Slug sold for 500K as good value (I know you like this coin and I like that coin too) but not this 1000 BTC (because the market is new). Anyway, I understand your opinion and respect it. I personally believe that 1000 BTC gold might sell for 100K when it show up next time.
Don't get me wrong, I know that we all have different tastes and one man's treasure is another man's trash. I guess I just don't understand it. I understand why some find great value in these manufactured modern rarities, the 2020-w V75 Gold Eagle, for example. I don't understand the value behind a redeemed Casascius coin, If it were still loaded with BTC that would be a completely different story. To each his own, I guess 🤷♂️.
For the record, when I was bidding on that slug, I only valued it at about 400k commercially. I bid beyond that knowing full well that I might bury myself by 10-20%, but the story behind it had a lot of value to me. That coin had such a rich and fascinating history, which can not be said about modern rarities. Time will tell if the BTC coins appreciate over the years, I do think that the unredeemed ones have great potential as more and more of them are redeemed and emptied.

No matter what is the outcome for bitcoin. I believe physical bitcoin will have a place in currency history. This gold coin is the only high face value physical gold coin on the market which makes it very collectible. Redeemed or not redeemed will not affect the collectible value.
100%. To each their own, but I just don’t see the upside on this when there is soooooo much more you could use that chunk of change on.
Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
