My Grandpa's Mexico 8 Reale - Genuine?

My late grandfather was an archaeologist (Florida, Cuba) and left me a number of unlabeled coins he either dug up or traded at conventions (in the 1940s when professionals did that! 😱). I’m trying to figure out if this is a genuine silver cob coin or a fake. It looks like a Mexico City “shield type” and weighs 26.4 grams, but beyond that, I’m stumped. Any guesses?

I've confused salt water corrosion effects with some of those seen on counterfeits, so I'll wait for someone more knowledgeable to opine on this one. Is it possible to take a better lit photo of the planchet split to see the metal inside?

    looks right from here

  • Genuine piece, Mexico City, 1714-24 die style. From common sense, the look of the surfaces, and the lion style which is specific to right around 1715 (PLUS the Florida connection)... very likely a 1715 Fleet find.
