PSA/DNA Red Flip and prepping the card to be signed so it doesn't ruin the card grade

Question for the group regarding prepping a card to get signed at a signing and eventually making it's way into a PSA/DNA Red flip holder where the card will be graded and autograph authenticated. I've only ever subbed for a generic blue flip or a red flip where the card is just "authenticated" as an actual card (not as a generic "trading card" blue flip), so the surface of the card has never mattered per say. I'm going to be getting a high value, modern glossy card signed (Pujols rc) through a private signing. The modern glossy cards need prepped before signing so the autograph doesn't bubble when it's signed in sharpie, and I am very nervous about using the baby powder or eraser method for taking the shine off the card. For those of you who have self subbed under the red flip card grading and auto authenticated, If I use the baby powder method for taking the shine off (like I have done for 1000's of in-person autographs over the years), will that kill an otherwise high grade card from getting a high grade? If yes, then what's the work around...request a blue staedler and pray and hope the promoter has those too instead of only using sharpies?
