for some reason i was surprised when i heard the news Remy had died. Maybe it was because he had relapsed back into cancer so many times and beat it again that i assumed he would do the same this time.

I didnt realize this round was as dire as it turned out to be.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

He's up there now calling games with the other great voices.
In my heart I feel when the old timers pass we are losing a real part of the game we don't realize yet. Their unique perspectives and stories of the greats, the fact you can sit by a radio/tv and enjoy the game as much as being at the game!
Much respect and honor to Remy and all the great color commentators.

One of my favorite moments was when he would do an inning in "homer" style where he would announce the whole half inning in favor of the Red Sox. It was hilarious.

I was on the phone with my Mom when I learned of his passing. She is 81 and lives in Massachusetts. She must have had the tv on and it came on the screen. She was immediately quite sad and shared the news. I enjoyed his work, though I wasn't exposed to it as often as others. Still knew him as a legend and was saddened as well. As @SonnyD said above, all of the many great radio and tv announcers, both play by play and color, who have helped us enjoy a game over the years are really important. And so many of the local guys are more enjoyable than the national ones. These guys are themselves treasures found within the treasure that is being a sports fan.

Remy and Orsillo were classic baseball announcers. You felt like you were listening to a couple of guys who both knew the game and stats well, but had fun doing it. Yes, there were times when they laughed so hard they couldn't talk. The classic shot of two couples seated somewhere appearing to just chat, then one guy reached over and grabbed a breast. Then Orsillo said "this used to be a family show"...they couldn't stop laughing, its in the clip above. Two guys you'd love to have a beer with for sure. Why Red Sox management fired Orsillo will always be a mystery to me, all of Red Sox Nation loved them.

Orsillo went on to announce Padres games and did very well for himself. He must be crushed by the death of Remy.
