Thoughts on yesterday's NFL games

The Jets beat the Bengals, a backup quarterback leads the Cowboys to victory over the Vikings, the Bucs go down to the Saints, the Lions are still winless, I owe my wife a steak dinner because the Patriots beat the Chargers, and John Wick was spotted at a Halloween party, let me know if there's anything I missed.

Mac Jones is the real deal, taking down Herbert and the Chargers, and he's only going to get better, I knew he could play when I watched him at Bama.

Every NFL season has a few weeks when common sense gets completely thrown out the window. Yesterday was one of them.

    Falcons brought the stank.

The Lions have yet to win a game, they might as well go for a perfect season, 0-17, they're half way there.

Meanwhile on Halloween, John Wick was spotted at a Halloween party dancing to a Pooh Sheisty, check it out.

If biting kneecaps was legal the Lions would be undefeated.
You want to recap the whole season in a nut shell. On 4th and 11, Goff threw the ball out of bounds, on purpose. How the f does a veteran QB do something so idiotic? BTW the score was 24-0.
I bet McVay will cross the street if he sees Dan Campbell coming. Lmao. What a dumpster fire.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have watched every snap from Mac so far. I really believe he is the real deal. He looks so much better that the other 4 drafted before him. at least so far.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I foolishly thought the Lions would keep it close and potentially win, the 3.5 I got was not even close to good.

Atlanta and Washington are complete jokes as well

I would imagine KC will crush NY tonight.

Rams were laying -16.5 at kickoff and were up by 38 with 9 minutes left...................and the rest is history

The Texans are a horrible team. Are they the worst team in the league? Ever? The Rams put in the 2nd string after the 3rd quarter. 38-0. It was the most lopsided game that I've ever seen. There were a couple of dropped passes by the Rams that could have been easy touchdowns. If those two passes were caught and If the Rams had kept the starters in for the whole game I think the final score would have been 60+-0. The Rams laid back in the 4th quarter and played pattycake . Out of pity for the Texans I think. Embarrassing game for the Texans. They have problems.

The Cowboys vs Vikings game was a bit of a shocker as well, the Vikings came out in their opening drive and scored a touchdown and looked to ready to play, and then their offense just fell flat on it's face, 1-13 converting on third downs, and lost at home to a backup quarterback. The Cowboys got the win in Minnesota and Dak will be back next game, dem' boyz got a real chance this year.

Did anyone else see this?.....On the first or second play of the Bucs last possession, Brady threw an on target bomb (game winner?) and it looked to me like his receiver, who had his arms extended for the catch, then at the last second tucked both arms in and didn't even try to make the catch. Weird. ......Brady looked astonished. Was it just me or did it really happen like that?

No. That's the problem. Maybe someone else can help out. My in residence electronics expert was at Disneyland yesterday celebrating a little Hydrant birthday. She's on her way home now so maybe she can figure it out. The last thing she did before she left on Saturday was to give me a tutorial on how to turn on the t.v. and use the remote so I could watch the game. She called yesterday morning before the game to ask if I needed any help getting the game on the set.........I'm that hopeless...... really.

WOW, that is insane!! He must have really pressed his bets and hit some incredibly good cards. I've had some streaks, but nowhere near that good!! Table games don't normally give out a W2-G, but if it was a tournament thing, he more than likely got one. Hate to give the government a dime from any of my winnings. Oh yeah, I've had serious losses too.
The ambience and incredible scenery in a place like Encore just makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable.
Wynn has two properties in Vegas, "Wynn" and "Encore", playing at the Wynn is just so elegant, just a pleasure...winning is just the cherry on top.

Once upon a time there was a place in downtown Vegas, a few streets over from the main drag called "The Western", it was a bona fide DUMP, but I went with a couple of buddies just to enjoy the experience. Its the kind of place you don't eat at, and only drink bottled water. It was a break in joint, and playing green almost resulted in being hovered over by the pit. When we went to the "cage" to cash out, with just a small handful of green, they actually called somewhere to verify they could cash us. It was more of a dare to go, pretty seedy area, getting back to Fremont St was a big step back to the world. Fun memory.

Your lucky to have Encore only 40 mins away. I have to drive 3 hours one way to get to Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina. I was planning to go this Thursday, but looks like rain. I hate to give up the "free" $275 in table coupons I have, but might have to pass.

He runs to have foot surgery. Do you think it ends their playoff hopes if he misses the rest of the season?
MHO. When you base your entire offense around one player and it isn’t the QB it certainly hinders the offensive opportunities.
Tannehill is at his best when the run game works because of play action. It sucks the LB’s up and tannehill hits those slants all day. Could be interesting to see if Tannehill can carry this team to the playoffs.

No doubt they can make the playoffs. Looks like they are going to run away with the division. Even if they go 5-4, 11 wins wins the division. But then you face playoff teams with stout defenses and high powered offenses. The Ravens absolutely shut down Henry last year and the offense struggled. Uphill battle for sure.

Wasn't a horse collar. As you can see in the pic, the defender grabbed by him on the back of the jersey. Never had his hand inside the collar or shoulder pads at all. Doesn't make a bit of difference to Jameis though - brutal injury.

So the story he told me was he sat down with 5K half in the bag and before he knew it he was up like 20K betting $500-$1000 hands, he was unbeatable and caught hand after hand and literally had over $270, 000 he got so drunk they actually told him he couldn’t play anymore over his mask not covering his nose or whatever and after a brief argument he was told to leave WITH his chips! 2 days later he went back and they paid him his money. He had like $274,000 or so and ran 4K quick into memories and hit the door. He told me he went back once and loss 10K and has t been back since. They have him like 7 Guns n Roses tickets and a limo drive to and from Fenway, free dinners and rooms trying to get him back but so far he has held strong and not gambled other than a $1000 or so during his comps.

He sent me a picture of his chips the next day

There was a penalty on the horse collar tackle.
Winston was pulled down from behind and to the side.
I don't know the rules but as nasty as the result it looked legal to me.

Even the next day they called it an illegal tackle. My question is why? He grabbed his jersey and pulled him down. Just a terrible position to catch him in up high. It wasn’t dirty just extremely bad luck

Yes, it was a horse collar, you can't grab a quarterback like that in the name plate and pull him down, and you can see in the photo he grabbed the nameplate. Here is the officiall NFL rule:

No player shall grab the inside collar of the back or the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, or grab the jersey at the name plate or above, and pull the runner toward the ground. This does not apply to a runner who is in the tackle box or to a quarterback who is in the pocket.

@Doubledragon Thank you for the exact rule
No player shall grab the inside collar of the back or the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, or grab the jersey at the name plate or above, and pull the runner toward the ground. This does not apply to a runner who is in the tackle box or to a quarterback who is in the pocket.
Can anyone explain why there are those exceptions?

  • thisistheshowthisistheshow Posts: 9,386 ✭✭✭✭✭

That comment that @2dueces made about McVay crossing the street if he sees Dan Campbell really made me laugh. It made me think of something else that I thought was funny. I mentioned this before, but I'll say it again because.....why not? There is a guy on local sports radio here named Bryan Broaddus. He was an NFL scout. He was with the Packers during the Favre SB years. Later with the Cowboys. He always has a lot of good insight and stories. Anyway, when the Lions hired Campbell, the show was talking about it. And he was talking about what kind of guy/coach Campbell is. He described him as the kind of guy who "eats dumbbells for breakfast". I thought that was pretty funny.
