Atlanta Braves in 2021 World Series - Poetic Justice?

SDSportsFanSDSportsFan Posts: 5,136 ✭✭✭✭✭

First off, I was rooting for the Dodgers to beat the Braves.

So, I let out a few obligatory curse words at the end of Game 6.

But then I remembered the All-Star Game fiasco this year.

So, it seems to be a bit of poetic justice that the Braves made it to the World Series, after what MLB did, taking away the All-Star Game from them.

Go Astros!!!!!

Goodbye Dodgers, this time the umps could not make a last strike call for you to move forward. Over-rated, over-paid, and yes MLB wants you in the WS but no, turns out you just are not good enough. Kudos to the Braves, hope they beat the Astros.

Good point - forgot about that. Funny how nobody on ESPN has mentioned that point - :D

I wonder if MLB is trying to figure out a way to move the WS to Denver 😂

I live about 80 miles from Atlanta, but, oddly, I'm not a Braves fan. However, I'm very happy that they're going to the WS and can give the finger to the Commissioner, who, IMO had no business moving the All Star game to Denver. Politics has no place in sports. The #44 will be there in large numbers for all to see in center field. Its to honor Hank Aaron. There was to be a big presentation to honor Hank's accomplishments while playing for the Braves, but the Commissioner squashed that with a stroke of a pen. He will, I'm sure feel the heat when he's seen at Truist Park. The new voting rules don't hurt anyone from voting here, if anything, it kinda tightens things up.

I flew to Minnesota in 1991 to see game 6 of the WS with my son. The Braves were close, but couldn't pull it out. It was fun, but we had some nose bleed seats, but it was the WS.

I'll pull for the Braves, after the Astros toasted my team.

I want the Braves to win the series and am not a national league fan. I love baseball so will watch some of the games but will lose interest fast if the Astros make a blowout of them.

my only rooting interest in this world series is for the team playing the Astros. I really dont think the Astros got their just desserts after the cheating scandal came out. the covid shutdown kind of tempered what would have been booing of epic proportions.

    go Braves!!

Well at least the Dodgers are out of it and unless they spend at least as much for all their free agents as they paid for Betts they are on a downward spiral. I don't miss Betts from the Sox because he is just another greedy player and I hope the Sox do not go that route this year as it does not work.

Imagine Atlanta wins the series at home and Manfred has to present the trophy in front of 41,000+ booing fans!!!!!!! Maybe a little "Let's go Manfred?"

And that's the reason I've never been able to watch the Braves (well, that and Skip Caray).

I absolutely can not stand that incessant war chant they do throughout the entire game!

As a diehard Braves fan I've been telling my wife this scenario since Manfred stole the All-Star game from ATL. Question. Do you think Manfred would have moved the ASG out of ATL if Hank was still with us?

I could not watch the whole game last night as it is hard to maintain interest in a game where you really don't care who wins. I still don't know who won the game for that very same reason and it is now the next day.

Players are getting too greedy and it has to stop. No player is worth or needs the kind of money that they want to play a game.

OK, players and management are getting too much money. The prices of advertising, tv,seats, everything goes up when the players get 100's of million dollars. That is more money than anyone can spend in a lifetime. Do you think buying a coke from the vendors is worth $10? It all mushrooms!

Checked out the World Series last night. I was shocked when I heard the announcer call the Braves catcher a "darn ho". What's this world coming to? ;-)

I say give Atlanta and all the Braves fans their due. Just because your team isn't in the big moment, should not be cause to want things to hastily end like it was a dental appointment.

I've lived in the Atlanta area for the majority of my life, not sure why, but never warmed up to being a fan...must be a National League thing. Been to a few games, have seen Aaron, Maddux, etc, etc play. All good memories. The fans are passionate as most fans are. They do their little silly tomahawk chop thing with foam tomahawks, but, lets not forget the Rally Monkey the Angels fans once touted and other "traditions" local fans have for their team.

Part of being a good sport is absorbing a loss. Do I like it when I'm play blackjack and I've got a $150 bet out and the dealer nukes my 20 by drawing a 4-5 card 21. Hell no, but its part of the game.

So, lighten up, if you don't like them, then just don't post negative stuff. I have no clue what planning we are supposed to be about for 22. ITS JUST BASEBALL, NOT AN ABLATION!!

I will be happy if the Braves win it but just want it over with at this point. Lots of decisions being made with free agency and an agreement between plays and owners coming up.

I guess we all focus on different things. I'm more concerned with weeds in my lawn than anything relating to decisions made by millionaires about millionaires who play a kids game 3 hrs a day, 6 days a week for 6 months. I don't care if they pay them all billions, doesn't impact my life one miniscule iota. For sure, money does not guarantee future performance, never has, never will. There are many, many players who've been paid untold millions, and still are being paid for stupid decisions over the years.

I'm focused on the life I have with my wife and our happiness and health. I have ZERO input or impact about whatever baseball does or doesn't do. Baseball to me is merely an entertainment thing, I like for my team to win, but if they lose, so be it.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

I don't worry about weeds in my lawn as I have nothing but artificial grass with crushed stone trimmings.
    Zero-scapeing is the answer.
I view baseball and football the same way you do and enjoy it as entertainment
I would like for my team to win but the world will not end if they don't.
I am not in favor of my team paying millions of dollars to players like Betts.
There are good players out there like Renfro who can take their place.

He was only here for a few years, but I really liked Soler's power. As a Royals fan that witnessed Soler's early season struggles firsthand, I'm happy for him that he was able to get it turned around in time for some other team to find him useful enough to make a trade to acquire him. He was a big contributor down the stretch for the Braves, and absolutely deserving of the World Series MVP.

    Soler Power!

I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and my grandfather was a hardcore Braves fan, he would make the trip from Greensboro NC to Atlanta GA to watch them play, he would watch and tape every game they had on TV religiously. I remember back in the 90s the Braves lost a bunch of World Series and it hurt to make it that far every year and come up just short. Every time I went to visit my grandfather, he would be sitting in that brown chair with the Braves game on in front of him talking about their chances that year. In 1995 the Braves finally won it all after years of trying and he was on top of the world for months. We lost my grandfather in 2002, but I know he was watching last night. He loved the Braves like perkdog loves the Patriots.

I have never understood this take. we live in a capitalist society. the players are actually getting paid less than they deserve because of the luxury tax. It is like when people complained that Jordan was making 30+ MM a year. he was worth 100's of MM a year due to the profits he was making for the ownership.

The owners can charge whatever they want for Sodas, beer, hot dogs, seats, parking, whatever. when the price gets too expensive, people will stop paying and the prices will go down.

maybe it is that the prices are too high for your tastes? I know they are for mine, that is why I havent been to a live sporting event since 2007.

Keep in mind. there are only around 600 people ON EARTH that have the talent to fill a spot on an MLB roster. only the top 25% of those 600 can be considered high level/star players. thats what, 150 people ON EARTH. that is why they are worth 20-45 MM per year. supply and demand.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Yup, congrats to the Braves team, they played exceptionally well against some tough competition. I was surprised to see such a lack of offense by the Astros, they've got some pretty good players on their team, but the offense was MIA last night, especially in view of win or go home situation.

Big hooplah on tv this AM, as you can well imagine. The parade is scheduled for Friday, good weather predicted. Give them their due, 26 years is indeed a long drought.
