PSA to ebay sellers shipping internationally.

I am having some Canadian coins I shipped to Canada returned from the ebay shipping center. I was notified they were being returned dues to a problem. I called ebay and inquired and was told I would get a reply.

Well I received a response today telling me they were a prohibited item!

So here is our conversation after so far:

Me:
To whom it may concern,

This is absolutely not a restricted item! I have shipped coins to Canada for many years. There seems to be an employee that does not know what they are doing. I have had this happen several times recently and subsequently shipped them again through the ebay shipping and they were delivered with no problem!

Best Regards,

eBay:
Dear, xxxxxxx

All currencies and numismatic coins are prohibited for shipment with the program at the moment. We are working to improve the service and include more categories allowed for cross border trade.

You can use different service to ship to Canada

Best Regards

eBay Shipping Team

Waiting on a response to this:

May I ask why? If this is the case why do you allow sellers to ship coins using your program if they are all the sudden not allowed?. You should absolutely make an announcement to ebay sellers if this is the case!
Best Regards,

Yes, I've had the same issue. Anything silver or gold is a problem, even if it's not a coin.

What gets me is them telling me I can use a different service to ship them. Before they were returned(haven't received them yet) they had already generated a USPS label to Canada for the shipment!

I've had similar issues in the past (when I was selling Goetz medals, many of the buyers were Canadians). Printing "Metal Disk" on the intake/customs form was what I was instructed to do and I never had a problem after that.

Most of my eBay International shipments to Canada were returned to me so I stopped using that service. All of the returned labels were not charged to my account. I use USPS 1st class now $14 instead of $11 but no returns.

I would bet the problem is with the insurer not the shipper.

How long in the past? This service is relatively new. There is no visible customs form and even when I changed the customs firm, eBay appears to know what the original description was.

Yes, they give you free round trip shipping to their trans-shipping point. Yay! Lol
