POLL: New Rule Proposal for MLB

SDSportsFanSDSportsFan Posts: 5,136 ✭✭✭✭✭

Regarding last night's questionable ending of the Dodgers-Giants game; and although I like the result, but don't agree with how it was reached, I propose a new rule:

We all know that some calls are non-reviewable, and I tend to agree with that.

I think, however, that in a case where the call ends a game, it should be reviewable.

So, as an exception to policy, I believe any and all game-ending calls, should be reviewable. No game, especially in the post-season, should have a questionable ending. Conversely, all non-game-ending, non-reviewable calls, should remain non-reviewable.

So, this is a Poll. Please indicate whether you agree or disagree with this propasal. Responses are anonymous.

All game ending calls should be reviewable.

No excuse, technology is there and a teams success is hanging in the balance

And how do you stop the spontaneous celebration from the fans and players so the Umps can spend 5 minutes reviewing the call? Especially during playoff games when everybody is so amped up. And then when the call goes against the home team do you think the fans will just sit there or litter the field with debris? I think these reasons (and others not thought of yet) may be why the game ending call stands.

Problem is that blown calls can be made at critical times of any Inning that could alter the outcome of the game. It's not exclusive to the final play or strike. Basically it would like saying we have the technology to correct crucial blown calls throughout the game but we refuse to use it and the bad calls stand. But, on the very last play of the game we will use technology. Doesn't work for me. It's why I voted a hard no.

It would be no different from now. Say a game ends on a disputed out call at one of the bases. It's reviewable. But everyone's "celebrating" the home team's "win". The umpires get together, go to the headsets, and the call is overturned. All the home team fans are upset, but the game continues. The home team players aren't so upset, because they understood that the call was close, and that it was reviewable.

You have a valid point. So, just make all calls, except probably normal ball/strike calls, reviewable at any point in the game.

I see - guess I didn't think into it as much as I should have.
