No coincidence that the Dodgers signed Jackie the year after Landis died. He helped ensure another generation was kept from the major leagues. While he restored faith in the game after the Black Sox Scandal, he also was a huge reason we do not have playing days cards of Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell and many others.
The letter is dated July 16, but the text within references that Jackson's letter was dated 7-29. Did it really sit untouched and misdirected for nearly a year before this reply? Or is there a typographical error with one of the dates?

My understanding is that because of an error in forwarding, there was a delay in it coming to Landis’ attention.

Yet with everything else like this going on, there's still no serious effort to have his named stripped from the MVP award which is named after him. Go figure.

They finally did last year. 89% of writers voted to remove. Here is Abreu with the new award.

Awfully generic and cheap looking...they could've still named it after someone like say, Happy Chandler, the second commish.
Apparently some think it should be named after Frank Robinson, which I think also makes sense. After all he was the first to win MVP in both leagues and was the first black manager, not to mention he's seventh on the all-time HR list ('roid guys don't count).

That's huge. So well preserved, too.
I always liked how Landis' letterhead just said BASEBALL.

Darn shame those players never got to play in the MLB. I often think about what might have been
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Museum piece.

Would love it to be named after someone like Frank Robinson. I am sure it will be named after someone.
