Against your D-Backs yet you have a Giants icon? Go figure...another guy with two favorite teams...imageimageimage

  • Yea and go figure they are both in the same division. I'm a Bay Area boy from birth but have lived in Arizona for about 15 years. Hard to not be a D-Backs fan since I've watched them from their birth. Hard to not be a Giants fan since I've been one since my birth.

You know how it is.... You're LA Lakers nut and an Atlanta Braves nut. How does that work you freak !!?? image

Been a Braves fans since I can remember and a Lakers fan since the 80's...plain and simple. image

  • Bah.... Lakers fan and you're not even from LA. No offense but "Real" fans have roots.

Everytime I talk to someone who's a "trendy" or fair weather team fan and not from the area I as well as many I know give them a hard time.

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

  • HA HA Derrick, someone else sees you as the fairweather fan that you are!!! HA HA HA

Sure you were a fan since the 80's- WHEN THEY WERE DOMINANT

And you're a fan now- AND THEY'RE DOMINANT

Bet you weren't all diehard in the early-mid 90's when they weren't dominant

Um, ok...for the lack of intelligence and the "assumptions" that are being brought upon me I was thinking about not saying anything or replying to this. But, I think hardheads need to softened. First of all, I said I've been a fan since the 80's...That means I've been a fan ever since I can remember in the 80's, and yes, I was STILL a fan when they were sucking in the 90's...your point? Just because I'm not in that area does not by any means say I CAN'T be a fan of a team...how lame is that? Either you believe me or not...and if not, I could care less, and if you do...then that's great. I know what I like and what I don't like and I know what I've liked and what I haven't liked...I don't need anyone making assumptions for me. Thanks...
  • LOL....who wouldve thought this post would turn into this, this is funny, but thanks guys for keeping it to the top! image
  • Well i don't believe you. it is too much of a coincidence that you are a diehard fan of your local sports team that is good (the Braves), but since the Hawks aren't any good, you call yourself a diehard fan of a team across the country. That is a little too convenient. If the Braves sucked i guess you'd be blabbering about how "i've been a diehard Yankee fan since i can remember". It's real easy to root for all of the perennial good teams in each sport and claim to be their biggest fan since you were young, since no one can attest to that

For one, I could care less if you believe me or not. That's your paragotive. You don't know me, so you have no idea what I do and what I don't like. I've been a fan of the Braves since the early 80's when they SUCKED and you could go into Fulton County Stadium and sit anywhere in the stadium you liked because they sucked so badly. I've been a Braves fan through thick and thin...Our only hope back in them days was Dale Murphy who kept the Braves ATLEAST contending for 4th place. As far as the Lakers are concerned...I've watched the Lakers and have always been a fan of them through their suck a$$ days they're good times. Your a Laker-hater so of course you want to jump on me about it...but that's ok...you have a right to believe what you want to believe...but I could care less what you think. I know what I like and what I've always liked...
  • All i am saying is that it's real convenient that you "just happen" to like nothing but good teams, that's all

Yeah, and I just HAPPENED to like them when they sucked too eh? Same difference.

  • I said it once and I'll say it again. Real fans have roots. If you're not from the area you're not a real fan.

That's not saying you can't root for a team you like, it's just saying real fans were born with their teams jersey on their backs. Real fans don't get to pick what teams they like. They are born into what teams they like, whether they like it or not.

How close to a my favorite team would I feel if I had never lived in the city they play in or gone to numerous home games of theirs or grew up talking about them with friends and family or made huge road trips with car loads of fellow local fans, friends, and family to their games in the next state?? I'll tell you how close. Not very close at all. Roots make the fan.

Ladude465- Your Dodgers will hopefully meet a tough demise at the end of the season narrowly missing the post season causing heart wrenching pain to all their fans. Meanwhile the Giants sneak it out over the Dbacks to take the NL West crown and go on to win the World Series ( assuming there is no league ending strike of course) !! Yea, yea, yea in my dreams. Could happen. Dodgers are tough this year. Can't wait for the second half of the season to start.

The Raiders were in Oakland when I was growing up so of course I'm a huge Raiders fan even thought they did move to LA for a while. As far as I'm concerned, the Raiders were robbed point blank in the AFC Championship game last year, but we won't go there.

And the Lakers bah... basketball season is over. Bring them up again in a few months image

  • All i know is that im a true fan of all the teams i mentioned, And right now all my teams have a chance to go far in the playoffs, something the raiders and dodgers have not done in a long time. All my life, until a couple of years ago, my teams sucked! But I never stopped liking any of them and stuck with em, i prolly will all my life. Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • The Dodgers have put together a great 1st half and Gagne has been the man.Give them their due.Why don't you just throw in that you like the Padres and Rockies too and you will have a 4 out of 5 chance of being happy at the end of the year.

  • Why don't you read the start of this thread where I point out why I'm a fan of both teams.

You're proposition to me about becoming a fan of the Padres and Dodgers is stupid to say the least.

    Think before you post.

  • UOAWF- Who the h*ll are you to say what teams he should like or should not???? I'm a Mets fan, but I'm from New Jersey. I WAS BORN AND RAISED TO LOVE THE TEAM!!!! But wait, I guess I don't like them because I'm not from NY. Oops!! My bad. Why should you not be able to like a team when you're not from where they are based?? You live in Ari....so how can you be a Giants fan??Just pointing out that you live in Ariz, but like a team from San Fran. It's the same thing!! You're saying he lives in Atl. but likes a team form LA. Same thing as you.

  • tO SAY THAT YOU HAVE TO LOVE THE TEAM FROM YOUR HOME TOWN TO BE A TRUE FAN IS JUST PLAIN IDIODIC. WHAT KIND OF MORON REALLY BELIEVES THAT.

Do people from Sacromento root for the Bee's over the Dodgers? I doubt it. Some people have favorite players and root for the teams their on. In free agency those players change teams and the fans alegiance might also.

As far as Gagne goes...Has anyone ever heard this guy interviewed? I heard him two nights ago and couldnt understand a word he said. It was like swahielli. Is that how he normally speaks or was i just lucky to catch him on a good day?

  • ILUVSPORTSCARD read the whole first page, it explains why I'm a Bay area sports nut, if you care. You were born in NJ which is next door to NY. You can't get much closer to NY so I don't know what you're yelling about.

    Real fans have roots.

IF I was born in Arizona and happened to be a Yankees fan from my birth I would be a fan but I would not put my self in the same regard as a Yankees fan born and raised in NY. You can be a fan of a team but REAL fans have roots. They bleed their teams colors having been born and raised in the city or next to (ILUVSPORTSCARDS) of their favorite team(s).

You can't tell me you have never turned your nose to someone who told you they were a Laker, Yankee, insert winning team here fan and next answered they were not born in or near the city that team plays for. I scoff at fans like that and so do most sport nuts.

I never said you can't root for a freaking team of your choice. I'll echo it again. Real fans have roots.

  • Doesn't matter. i'm from NJ...you didn't say "if you were close..." you said you must have roots...my roots are in NJ, not NY. I'm also next to PA, Delaware, and the ocean. But I'm not fans of teams from there. Yes I read the whole thign and every time you made a post I couldn't help but laughing at the idiotic thoughts posted. You don't have to have roots, you just have to love the team. In fact, let's let people vote. I will make a topic...and we'll see who's right.

  • And no, I don't do that. If they love the team, the LOVE it as much or more than anyone else. If someone is from the area, that doesn't mean they love a team more than say someone in Ohhhh...the Bay Area,

Just ignore Uofana$$...that's all he does on CU is look to bash or tell someone that they are bandwagon fans. My Dad is 48 years old and he's a Raiders fan. Does that make him a bandwagon fan? No. He's been a Raider fan ever since they existed and he lives in Atlanta. That doesn't make him a bandwagoner. Same with me...I've been a Lakers fan since the Magic era, and was hoping they'd eventually go back to their glory days...which they have. I'm also a Braves fan, and have been a Braves fan since the 80's when you could go into Fulton County Stadium and sit anywhere in the stadium you wanted to because we sucked back then. The only hope was Dale Murphy. I'm also a Falcons fan, and hopefully their back on track to being a successful team, unlike the fluke of '98. Of course I'm a Hawks fan, but they come second to the Lakers...but I'm far from a bandwagoner.

btw, John Smoltz is better than Eric Gagne, although I do admit that he's a helluva closer, but Smoltz is a little better...even Peter Gammons wrote an article about Smoltz being the best closer in baseball and one of the best since Dennis Eckersley and compares him to Dennis. Smoltzie rules!! image
