An update on Gronk's injuries.

Rob Gronkowski Reportedly Has Punctured Lung, Cracked Ribs from Hit During Game Against Rams

NFL fans likely noticed Tampa Bay tight end Rob Gronkowski was nowhere to be seen during the Buccaneers game against the New England Patriots on Sunday night.

Gronkowski, 32, was injured after being hit in the third quarter of the Buccaneers' game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 26. While he briefly reentered the game after the hit, the injuries kept him from joining the Bucs on their flight to Massachusetts for yesterday's game.

Gronkowski did not join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their much-discussed game against the New England Patriots on Sunday night

"We held out hope all week that Gronk would be ready," a source close to the Bucs told ESPN. "He's a different breed."

According to the outlet, Gronkowski underwent an MRI following the hit that showed he had several fractured ribs.

"He made progress but not enough," Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians told ESPN of Gronkowski's recovery.

Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer later clarified that Gronkowski suffered a total of four cracked ribs, one broken rib, and a punctured lung during the game against the Rams.

"I actually talked to Gronk about it, and he said 'There's been a lot of misinformation out there, so, Jay, put the right information out there about me.' It wasn't just a couple of cracked ribs, it was four cracked ribs, one broken rib and a punctured lung," Glazer said.

"He said, 'Of course I wanted to be out there against New England as much as anything. But with something like this, especially the lung, I need to think about my health first,' " he continued. "That's something I might not have thought about earlier, but at this point I've got to really make sure my health comes first.' But he said it was driving (him) crazy that he couldn't be in there against New England."

Damn, this knucklehead actually went back into the game with these injuries. I don't know how severe his injury is compared to Drew Brees last season who had a punctured lung and several rib fractures but Brees only out for a little over a month. If I were Gronk I'd really be debating about whether its worth it to keep playing football. He came out of retirement then won a SB and made some more money along the way,at some point you gotta ask yourself if its really worth playing any longer.

I remember that injury Brees had last season, he was absolutely miserable, it takes it's toll on you. I've had rib injuries and they hurt like crazy, it hurts when you move, it hurts when you breathe, sleeping on your side is almost impossible, I can't imagine have cracked ribs AND a punctured lung at the same time.

man, can you imagine if he would have taken another big hit in the rams game. we could have had another Bledsoe situation on our hands.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Yea I think with Gronk he is probably just playing because he truly loves it and the relationship with Brady. The guy is financially set and he has multiple rings but hey if your doing what you love doing then that counts for something. It’s unrealistic for us to think what’s best for him although retirement is not a bad idea lol

I read somewhere a few years ago he never spent a penny of his game checks. Dude from Buffalo ain’t so dumb.

Multiple fractured ribs create pain you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy! You feel it every breath you take! I got crack blocked in high school by a 280 lb lineman, at 175 lbs soaking wet I lost that collision miserably! lol

When I was younger, I was playing baseball and I slid into second base real hard and the second baseman was a big kid and he stuck his knee out and my rib cage crashed into his knee and messed my ribs up pretty bad. I remember the agony was unbearable, it hurt just to breathe and move. All I could really do was just lay in bed until it healed, I was absolutely miserable!
